Ignition Switch, help please!

im relplacing my ignition switch, and its held there by those 2 screws with the heads that are supposed to break off, well how do i take them out??? ive tried the craftsman unscrew bit, doesnt work right, i dunno wtf to do, please help!

are you sure there not torx tamper proof screws?i just replaced my switch on my 88 hatchback and i used torx screw driver(star bits to the layman)

i think that they are torx t27 bits from what i have read.

I have always taken them out with vice grips. If you drop the column down, and are careful, the large part of the head can be gripped by a sharp pair of vice grips.

there are tamper-proof torx bits too.

ya it was tamper proof, what i did, was drill it a bit with a 1/8" drill bit, then i got the good old hammer and chisel, hammered at where i drilled at the top of the head. Once i did that a bit, i had a nice big slot, then i just used my flat head screw driver and unscrewed them .

wouldn't it have been easier to just have bought the right tool and it would have been quicker.you can't always fix everything with visegrips and hammers.

I just took a hack saw and cut a grove in them like sloted head screw

Hey if it works do it, the chisel, drill and hammer method worked fine, that way i just used a slotted screw driver and took it out . Saves me money and gives me thinking points.
