ok i want an electric ignition from MSD. what exactly do i need besides this

i was reading the info on it and it says "Like all of the MSD 6 Series Ignitions, the 6A will work with virtually any vehicle as long as it has a 12-18 volt electrical system. It can be triggered using breaker points, a magnetic pickup or the output of an electronic amplifier. All necessary parts and wiring instructions are included."

how do i know if i have an 12-18 volt electrical system?

That is the normal voltage range of cars with altenators. If you are still running a point distributer you will have better luck putting in a breakerless distributer first, then if needed add the msd box.

If you like digital check out Mallory. Much less green and mine in my F150 has been going strong for two years. Check summit racing web sight and you find all the products mentioned.

I thought I remember something about the same big company owning both of them. If thats true, the two products may be quite similar if not identical. I can't remember for sure.

Just looked at my summit wish book. The digital MSD stuff sure does look alot like the mallory. MSD digital-6 = $319.88, Mallory hayfire 6al [has rev limiter] = $175.95 . If you don't need rev limiter $125.95. Even the part numbers are kind of simmiler. IMHO all the bells and whistles availible for MSD is great for race cars but maybe not needed for the average hot street car.

Isn't the hayfire 6al equivalent to the MSD 6AL box not the digital 6 ? The MSD 6AL runs about 200 if I remember correctly.

Hayfire is a digital box. The equivilent is the digital-6. Prices are out of my latest Summit book. Might be some better deals on the net. Just offering up a less expensive alternitive if one doesen't need all the other goodies that can plug in the MSD. I agree the digital is the way to go no matter what brand.
