I'm a fool but need Help on Timing...

*******************ok I believe I advanced it to 12 Degrees....but when I started it and checked the timing, it was at 22 is this correct. I tightened back down the distributor and reversed all my steps.

2.hook up timing light
3.Start car
4.adjust distributor to desired advancement
5.tighten distributor
6.recheck timing

if all is good

7.Plug spout back in while the car is running?

PLease let me know....also why did the car jump 10 more degrees to 22 when I set it at 12?

Well I removed the spout with the car off and installed it with the car off and thats when the timing was bumped.

So now it reads 22 degrees advanced.....This is ok?

It read 12 degrees with the spout out the distributor was tightened down and ready to go.



So now that it reads 22 degrees with the spout back in this is a normal reading?
