Okay I believee I advanced timing 12 Degrees....turning it so the crank pulley went towards BTC and was at 12.....THEN

1991 Ford Mustang GT 302 5.0

Thanks in advance
*******************ok I believe I advanced it to 12 Degrees....but when I started it and checked the timing, it was at 22 is this correct. I tightened back down the distributor and reversed all my steps.

Thanks Again

what do you mean "and then i started it"?. It should have been running the whole time. All you do is pull the spout, advance timing and then put spout in. With the car runing!

ok correct me if I am wrong:

1.pull spout connector(while car is off)
2.hook up timing light
3.Start car
4.adjust distributor to desired advancement
5.tighten distributor
6.recheck timing

if all is good

7.Plug spout back in while the car is running?

PLease let me know....also why did the car jump 10 more degrees to 22 when I set it at 12?

Thank You

Sounds good. I like to remove and install the SPOUT connector with the car off, though I have done both with the car running.

Well I removed the spout with the car off and installed it with the car off and thats when the timing was bumped.

So now it reads 22 degrees advanced.....This is ok?

yes the timing does jump up after you put the spout back in. You dont need to turn the car off for spout removal or reconnect. You double check your timing when the spout is still out and after you tightened down the distributor. Checking it with the spout in is going to give you the reading you got. This is why we pull the spout, so you can get your base timing

okay, so I am good on the 22 degrees timing since that is what it read after the spout was reconnected?

It read 12 degrees with the spout out the distributor was tightened down and ready to go.

So now that it reads 22 degrees with the spout back in this is a normal reading?
