I went to the track last night with my friend in his 03 gt 5speed . He was all hyped up to go test out his new 3.73 gears, and 255/45/17 bfg kd tires. He ran a 13.92 with his stock tires, mac cai, pullys, and flows. But, when we went this time he had a hard time breaking 14.3. He's getting consitaint 2.0 sec 60ft times, and traping at about 96mph. Shouldent the gears be helping him? I ran a 14.9 in my 98 vert with stock 2.73 gears and some crappy kumho tires and got a 2.29 60ft. His car feels like its pulling much harder when your in it, but the track times don't show it. I am planing on putting 4.10's in my car soon, and this is making me think twice about it.

I can't get it up......ok that didn't sound right.

The gears should be helping him but I think he's messing up on his shift patterns. Remember, just because you put gears in your car doesnt mean its going to make up for the inconsistency of the driver.

BTW, I think 4.10's is a bit steep for a internally stock 98 Gt with a five speed.

Do you do any highway driving in your car? If so then you'd absolutely hate 4.10's!!

And I'd have to agree with Dark, they should be helping him so it must be something that the driver is doing incorrectly for that to happen...

He's not that bad of a driver. he got first place in his class at Fun ford weekend in phenix, and place first last night. He has his picture in mm&ff from his win in phenix. but being consistant doesnt mean you know how to push your car to the limits I guess.

My 4.10's are a real joy in my '00 5 speed. Next time, maybe 4.30's. The higher rpms don't bother me one bit.

BUT, my Mustang is a third car. The other two are a 2002 Suburban and an brand new Minivan. So, the stang is used for "pleasure and fun". But I plan on taking it on a 600 mile trip in two weeks.

I can't believe ppl are still whining and bitching about driving on highway with 4.10..

compare to 3.73.. 4.10 is only 200-300 rpm higher in every gear
compare to 3.27.. 4.10 is around 500 rpm higher..

I don't see what's the big deal is..
