i'm fearing the gear......reassurance needed

let us/me know how you like them when you get them installed :nice:

They're amazing. My car feels as powerful as my buddies 96 Cobra. The first time I brought the car up to 2500rpms in 3rd gear and just punched it, the car actually scared me.

Theyre the best 'bang for your buck' mod I have done to either of my stangs. As long as you dont mind being glued to the seat in every gear, than get 3:90s. 4:10s would be fun too... but first gear would be absolutely useless. 3:73s wouldn't be enough.

Just my opinion but realisticly, STOP I dont think you will feel much of a difference from 3.55 to 3.90, youll probably notice it in the rpm's and at the track the most. I went with 3.73's and im HAPPY i did not go with 4.10's because of the rpms.

Didnt realise you had another daily driver, go with 4.10's :D

ya they're great. I dunno how much of a difference that it makes that mine is a Cobra but I'm sure you will love them anyways. At first you might not feel that much of a difference but after a little bit of driving you will start to get a feel for them and you'll be very happy. Let me know how they are.

i think the rpm and milage problems with gears are way OVEREXAGERATED.

I agree as well.. big time. I'm running a 4spd with 3.73's and I turn over 3k at 60+mph - i'm not too worried about it, it's not going to hurt the motor. Lots of oil pressure and normal maintenance, why worry? Look at european cars, they cruise at over 3k all day long. Fuel consumption will suffer a bit, but not as much as most would assume.

Here's first hand experience:

It was a night and day difference going from 3.55 to 3.90. It felt like the car went from just ok, to TEAR up the road and always ready for a fight, lol. I am not kidding either.

PLUS it revs out just enough to have excellent power in 5th but not too high. I am glad I didn't go 4.10 or 4.30 because 200 rpm does make a difference on the hwy to me. But that's my o' with my combo. I understand that some of you don't care how high you rev and just drive you r car on the track anyway and that's ok too. Personally, I would only go to 4.10 or higher if I had real sticky tires, drove track more than street..4.10's are great for 1/4 mile-ers...Now gas mileage....

It don't make no difference but 1-2 mpg no matter what gear you go to unless you are going higher than 4.30. The "lose lots of gas mileage" myth is just internet B.S. ( my experience is with 5 speeds)

Hey guys,
I hate to be beating a dead horse but..
I am about to get gears. I found a shop that will do 4:10's installed for 400 (including gear).
They will charge more for 3:90's because Ford doesn't make the gear.
I'm fearing the gear.
My car is my DD. It is also an automatic.
It is my understand that t5's have much lower ratios than AODE's. I want a fast car.
I think I'm going with 4:10's. The guy at the shop asked what I had because originally I was going with 3:73's, after I told him it was an auto he said they strongly recommend 4:10's. I DO want teh best SOTP feel.

3.55 to 3.90 you wont hardly tell a difference. you need to go with 4.10 or 4.30s. I've been running 4.30s for years and drive it everyday and it still gets good mileage. 18 around town and a few weeks ago I went to atlanta and it got 25 mpg running 75 80 mph the whole way. 4.30s are an all around great gear. just my opinion. but you need to definatly go lower than 3.55s.

Sounds like a good shop. Go with the 4.10's as they recommend.

I have 4.30's and i'm not afraid of them :)
