Well I picked up a 90 noatch back today  i bought it from a friend today. it has 1 minor problem we can't figure out. it runs fine and after a little while it will die out and won't start. sometimes it will fire back up sometime you have to leave it for an hour we believe it is the TPS (any thoughts) The block is a cobra block 302 edlbrock heads, intake i believe it is an E cam. He still has to write out all the specs on it for me. The car was an automatic it now has a T5Z in it the computer is still stock so that can be a problem let me know what everyone thinks i'm not going to fix it till next season just would like to get some ideas I will post all the specs when i get them

thanks

one of the problems maybe tha the computer if for the automatic stil and hasnt been swapped for a 5 speed one. If you need one, let me know.

anyway, conrats on the car...and a notchback to boast.

Thanks its acutally the paint sceam of your icon red with white strips I'll post picture tomoarrow. I'll let you know about the computer thanks. I got a good deal on the car too $5500 less then 3k miles on the motor trans rearend suspension brakes. and yes it has a mild drag suspension in it. The guy is one of my best friends i was basically there when every part got put on the car but hes got the 05 itch so had to sell the notch

you can reuse the aod computer in a 5 speed. check your alternator and your cable wires. also any electrical issues.

im not so sure about that. if you could just reuse it, why did ford make 2 diff. computers? the aod one will have shift points and should get all messed up when you work with it.

No problems here with the aod ecu and t5 tranny. If anything, there is some speculation that the aod computer has a slightly more aggressive fuel and timing curve...but who knows, really. Either way, I would guess that having the aod ecu in there is not the source of your problems.

aod computer can be used in a 5 spd...its no problem...the only thing is if u have anauto and use a 5 spd, it will cause problems but not vice versa
as everyone said, this is right on (this was the easiest to quote).
blk92 is living proof. :)

when it wont start, ground a plug and see if you are missing spark. then go from there (i would speculate TFI or pick up). you can test the Pick up via the TFI harness, IIRC.

nice pick up and good luck. :)

Well is it possible the computer is going bad? Here is something I should have mentioned the check engine light is on and won't go off it came on after the car started shutting off. it is reading out of range on basically all the sensors mass air, o2, tps etc. could this be the computer going out possible when the computer heats up after about an hour of drive it is shutting off. I just don't see every sensor going out at once and since they all go to the computer i was thinking something is wrong with it. let me know if this makes sense
Thanks

I haven't uploaded all the picture yet but here is the engine

Yeah AOD computer is ok in there.
After my t-5 conversion I drove around with it for 4 years and finally swapped it out for a 1993 T-5 computer from a salvage yard for $50.

By the way 1993 computers have mildler fuel/timing curves.

I did notice that the manual computer holds the RPM up and more steady while up shifting.

Also when you check you TFI module, make sure you apply a nice coat of dielectric grease between the module and the distributer mounting plate. The grease serves as a heat shield to keep the module from overheating.

yeah electric fan.I will check the TFI but, why am I getting codes I will scan it tomarrow and list all the codes i'm getting the only one I know is true is the mass air meter is stock the new one has to be sent back. I understand a aod computer will work in the car but is it possible the computer is taking a ****?

Thanks

couple things come to mind. do post codes - one device or system amuck can cause lots of codes.

have you messed with the car for some period w/o disconnecting the battery? what im getting at is that there could be old codes stored.

if you suspect the puter, perhaps there is a friend nearby who you can swap the puter with. stick a bag of frozen peas on the puter to keep it cold?

my random thoughts. good luck.

well the last thing done to the car before this started was the header gaskets being replaced. It was done by the person i bought the car from not myself. I can unhook the battery for a couple days and see if any codes clear
