I have a 89 LX 5.0 and im going nuts trying to think of how to get it faster lol.. there is so many things and i jus dont kno what to do... it is automatic and compltely stock for now. the only thing i kno i am doing is offroad x-pipes... anything else is up in the air.. now this car will be street / drag so it needs to be fast with a decent top speed.. lol. i kno what do i need a top speed for but its a long conversation.. anyway so all the ideas and things u can tell me what i can do will be great... also my goal is to beat a 2003 SVT which runs 12's to 13's depending on the normal ****.. so any parts or insite u can give me is so helpful.. thanks

Most poeple start off with bolt-on parts, which should be enough to get you into the 13's. If you want to go 12's, you might look into a good set of cylinder heads, cam, and intake manifold. The x-pipe is a good start, but I would suggest a complete exhaust system, starting with a set of headers, the x-pipe, and a cat-back system with some free-flowing mufflers. Next step would be a set of gears for your rear-end. 3.73 gears would be a good choice for your car w/ an automatic. You can also do underdrive pulleys, which is an inexpensive bolt-on

How much money are you able to spend? A lot of how fast you wanna go depends on how much money you can spend.

I agree with what was stated above, except I would suggest going with 4.10 gears. I have the 4.10's and love them in my automatic LX Convertible. They are great for a better launch at the track and not too bad on the street.

i would say not to forget the suspension components. i love my lakewood rear control arm kit and i will soon be installing adjustable struts and shocks. i want my car to hook quickly and launch hard. with all the power you will be installing in your lx you will need to get it to the ground.

Intake manifolds are generally between $400-600. A good set of aluminum heads can range from $900-1200. There are lots of good brands out there. The Ford Racing Cobra intake is a good intake for the money. Edelbrock and TFS (Trick Flow) also make nice intakes. For heads, Trick Flow, Edelbrock, and AFR are all good choices. You can usually find a set of Ford GT-40 heads for a reasonable price as well. Keep in mind that when changing these parts, you will usually have to upgrade other items. Things such as larger fuel pump, bigger fuel injectors, bigger mass-air meter, roller rockers, and a larger throttle body are needed to get the most out of your combo.
