It needs paint but the body is clean with very little rust. The interior is faded but ok. it has a 390 FE motor with 18k miles and a c6

The guy is asking $13,995 for it. convertible of course

If I go with this thing, that might change my plans for the stang a little

If i can get him down to $12,000 I might jump

Those are very cool cars, personally I always liked the hard top better, but that convertible is indeed a rare one. What condition is the top in, and does it function OK?

Awesome man. Can't quite match the feeling of sitting in a nostalgic car. I know how you feel about the possibility of the stang plans changing a little, When I got my 62' all my stang plans came to a screaching hault for the time being.

as you may be able to tell from my mustang, i am a convertible guy

the guy says the top is in good condition, no leaks, and it goes up and down as expected.

i know what you mean. i had a yellow 1970 stang vert with a 351, completely stock. i should have never sold it.

this car, at least according to the seller, is in good running order. pretty much all it needs is a seal for the power steering and new paint and upholstery.

if he can produce the paperwork showing the engine and tranny rebuild, i'll probably go for it.

As long as the Stang stays around there is no need to you...

I love the way these cars look... something about the quad headlights...

Go for it and it looks like a good detailling or wetsand can bring that paint back to respectible...

The funds I have for my kids' college tuitions are in CDs in the amount of $20,000 for each CD. What I would like to do is cash one in of those CDs to pay for this project, the idea being that in 4 years, I'll be able to get at least that (and hopefully a little more) back should I need to sell the car to help pay their tuition. With that in mind, here is my estimate for finishing the restoration of the Fairlane:

How is the condition of the underbody? Did you factor in the seats to the interior work? New upholstery and carpet will make 40yo seats look even worse...

the bulk of the $1500 is for the seats.

I have a '67 Mercury Cyclone GT with the 390 4 speed. It is essentially the same car and its a lot of fun to drive. Does this car have a metal or fiberglass hood?

Make sure the floor pan isn't too bad. Get a picture with the carpet pulled up. New metal and labor on floor pans isn't cheap.

the guy sent me 48 pictures of everything. some of them are of the floor pan. it looks fine.

I agree about not buying sight-unseen. Atleast get a fellow stanger that's local to the car to go see it. Or fly out and bring it back on a trailer (offset by the freight cost you listed). I know you said you wouldnt but........... This is a college fund you're pondering the use of.

Unless you do all of your own work on these things, it could really turn out to be a bad investment. We're not being all negative about it - it could be a great car. I pucker enough when buying a car I've looked over in person, let alone buying one sight-unseen.

BUT that is ALOT of dough. FLY out to see it in person for a little insurance an you won't be sorry. I ALMOST bought the CCCOOLEST looking fox just b4 I bought this car. SOOOOO glad I went to see it first. I drove, looked and sounded NOTHING like the pic. If it turns out like I think though, your car will be very fun to drive!!

Car not on the roady yet!? WTH? I am getting my properly programmed chip tomorrow and I will crank her up and hopefully it will run rite.

thats one of my favorite year of the fairlane. i used to have a 68 torino gt fastback. i would definetly get a local stangnet to do a thorough inspection of the car before i spent that kind of money on it though. it looks to be a super cool car.
