Im retarted. How do I ajust headlights.

Well, Im not as retarted as the body shop who put them on in the first place. But they seem to shine right into the ground when driving down the highway. When I hit the highbeams its just about what the old ones were. And I cant figure out how to ajust them. There are studs coming out of the back in many places but thats all I can see.

I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Plus, the whole cant do more than 2 searches every 45 seconds got on my nerves.

There's 2 screws per side. Well I think so but at least 1. Its between the corner light and the headlight. You look at the car from the front and you'll see it. Just grab a screwdriver and you're set.

Our headlights are not adjusted with slotted screws from the front. They are adjusted from the back of the headlights in the engine compartment with two threaded shafts that have 4mm hex heads on them.

There is one shaft for each plane of adjustement; horizontal plane (left-right adjust) and vertical plane (up-down adjust).

Turn the shafts CW or CCW until the headlight beam moves in the direction you want. Best way is to park the car on a very flat surface directly in front of a wall. Mark a cross on the wall directly in front of each headlight, at the exact height as the center of the headlight from the ground as measured on the car.

The high beams should be aimed directly at the center of the cross marks. The low beams should be aimed just below and to the right of center.

The catch is that you need a 4mm socket wrench for a Ford. I've got every socket on the planet an didn't have that size. Turns out that there are Ford headlight adjusting tools made just for the purpose. I did a Google search and found several online and bought one. Mine has about a 8" long metal handle with a ratcheting 4mm socket on the end.

Well my aftermarket clear diamond headlights have the screw in the front between the two. I thought they were all the same.

My instructions were for stock Ford headlights.

I'm not sure at all about aftermarket headlights. I expect that they might adjust the same way since they probably mount in the same housing as the stock units.

There actually are some slotted screws that show from the front on stock headlights, but those are not aim adjusting screws, they just hold the headlight assembly in place in the housing.

Again, I have no experience with aftermarket headlights, so I'm just guessing regarding how those mount/adjust. Those with aftermarket units will know for sure.

Thanks for the info MLC STANG. I went into the tool pit in my garage and found a 5/32 cocket that fits at the end of the ajust screw. The only pfoblem I have it I have to use a connector becaue the socket is so small. Its a drop from a 1/2" to a 1/8 Im guessing. But its too long and wont fit in there. Owell Ill have to find someone with that wrench and go from there.
