I'm going to be buying a mustang, and was looking around this weekend. I ran across a 2010 427R with 2000k for $40k at a Ford dealership. A new GT prem will run almost that much (convertible). I can't make a decision here. The new 5.0 is only 20 hp off of the 427R,,,torque I don't know?? This car will probably not be raced, and if it is it will be on a road coarse and just for fun. Will the Roush come on faster then the 5.0 since it is supercharged? How about handling? I haven't driven either one, but I've been told that the new 6 sd has a pretty close ratio and there is alot more shifting involed when driven on the street. What to do??

Not to take away anything from the Roush, but if your gonna shell out nearly $40k for a car, it might as well be BRAND NEW! I know 2K miles if practically new, but for that amount of money, I'd feel better about getting something no one else has owned. Plus, the 5.0 is naturally aspirated with much more room for improvement. Just my $0.02

40K for a used car mustang at that is expensive. I'm sure if you search around enough you can find I loaded 11 GT coupe for around 31-33k and if your lucky to get the A-plan thats even more savings. Thats roughly 7k to play around with if you so choose and have the money to do so. Thats a good suspension system and you could get those sexy RTR wheels. You should have enough money left to were you may only need to couple more K for F/I, then you would have serious power. I have a 2010 GT and I'm wishing I would have just waited for 2011.

Wow, I'm really suprised by the responses to this. My opinion is the 427R, if it's got the options you want on it, then I say go for it, it's a bad ass car and will DEFINITELY stand out in the sea of other mustangs on the road

The Roush would be the way to go "IF" it were at the right price IMO. We sponsored a huge Mustang event in Myrtle Beach during this past week at Darlington Speedway and I seen a few Roush models do surprisingly well in the 1/4 considering how hot it was. We are a platinum sponsor and I seen some great runs from some Roush models. The 5 Liter has its ups though and some of the differences between those vehicles is the suspension. Again at the right price I think the Roush does have the superior suspension setup but then again you can upgrade the 2011's suspension at a reasonable price if you want the more sporty handling attributes.

Roush,a new one is 52k base and will stand out and hold value more then the 5.0.We are all pumped on the 5.0 now,but in a few years the market will be flooded with them.

+1 on that, I'd LOVE to have a 5.0, but don't let the "new" factor of it sway your decision, you can get the same power in a rare car that is more likely to hold it's value and is BASICALLY brand new, where as 5.0s will be pretty common here in about a year. I've already seen more 2011 5.0s running around already than I've ever seen 427R's, but that's just my 2 cents... I'd recommend just driving each one and deciding which feels right for you.

Like all the threads that start with what's better this or that my answer is: IT DEPENDS.


If you're looking for a nice piece to show off at car shows and on the weekend cruise the Roush would be more exclusive than (what will quickly become) a common 5.0. It has the looks, the handling, and it has power on par with the new 5.0. It is overall a great package but that's what it is a package.

The new 5.0 will probably be the best bet if you want a blank canvas to make the car your own and go with it whichever direction the aftermarket will bring to suit your taste.

My feeling is that there are so many special edition/special package/tuner Mustangs out there that even they cease to be anything special. It's hard to keep track of them all and many of them tend to look overdone. Again, that's just me but I have to say, that 2010 427R is pretty sweet. As Walter said it's all up to the individual. I'm more interested in bang for the buck than exclusivity so the 5.0 would be my choice. If the performance numbers weren't so close it might be a tougher decision.

Both are great cars. The roush has better suspension and ready for road racing etc. The 2011 is a blank slate ready for additions and probably a little cheaper (even in convertible form). Either one would be awesome. What is more important, making your own or spending more now and starting off with something.

No real bad choice with either of those cars.

The Ford dealer in Elizabethtown, KY. has a brand new 2009 Shelby GT 500KR marked down to $66,000. If money were no object that is what I would go with. The car stickers for about $88,000 and the dealer originally wanted a premium. Two model years later he can't move it. (Yes, I said KR).

Consider what it would cost to have those Roush parts on the 5.0. 10, 12K ?? For resale value I would think that the special edition would be worth more some day down the road. I would also suspect the the Roush would handle a whole lot better, but I can not speak from experience. If you like the 427R look around you might be able to find a new one still.
