i've been looking around for mufflers for my box stock 87. i like you don't want obnoxious loud and more improtant i don't want the drone.

so far i have come up with walker #22348 & # 22349. they are basically stock replacement mufflers. two different size cases is why the different part numbers for left and right muffler. i woudl think you would get no drone with these but it will be on the quiet side like stock..

the other one that seems to be getting good reviews are the dynomax VT mufflers. they are saying they are on the quiet side at idle and cruise speeds but when your're int he throttle they have a great sound and are louder. since they have a valve built inside them they do not have the drone from what i have read.

I would not bother with walker factory replacements personally, they will sound well...stock. The Dynomax VT recommendation I do like however for a fairly tame but good sounding setup.

For some reason, all the videos posted in this thread are not visible to me.
There is just a big blank area in your posts, no links or anything...

So I'll play along..if you insist on not waking the neighbors but are a fan of V8 Mustangs I would absolutely be ashamed of you for installing Walker stocker stuff. A Flowmaster 3 chamber system "Force II" was a real nice choice on my old 87. Nice tone and no drone. I found myself wanting more noise though. I also had a Dynomax system on it with turbo mufflers and it sounded nice. Again it was more quiet than the Flowmaster system but sounded much nicer than stock. I myself am planning the old 40 series 2 chamber Flows for mine as I like the noise.

ahh it has nothing to do with the neighbors. i had flowmasters on my 90 mustang and a few of my mopars.. they were loud like i wanted at the time but did drone and are too loud for what i want now (older now ). mac's i had on my dart at first.. too loud and annoying for my taste and they are just a flowmaster knockoff to me. i would like something that has a decent sound to it but also don't want to go nuts cruising with the top down. i like to be able to hold a conversation with my passenger while driving..lol.. i also don't want that stinking drone. that drives me nuts. i've read a few threads maybe here but could have been at foureyed that guys running super turbos had the drone.. that worries me. my dart had 3" huge case super turbos and didn't have a drone and was a good sound. not too loud not too quiet and was a nice deep tone.. i'm not putting anything that big under my mustang though. i'm kinda leaning towards the dynomax vt. seems like the best of both worlds.

I really liked the Dynomax 2.5" cat back on my vert with offroad H. No drone as long as you run tailpipes. Gears play a role in drone as well. Automatic vs manual effects it too. Mine was an auto with stock gears. Gear ratio shifts the drone around the RPM range so you may or may not hear it.

yea, my 90 and my 87 are automatic cars.. with the stock 2:73 gear the flowmasters were not bad. once the 3:73 gears went in the drone was horrible on the highway.

Well since everyone else is posting videos, here's mine
Equal length long tube headers, 3 inch pipes (no H or X) with Summit brand mufflers and temporary dumps. I went super cheap on my exhaust. I have 2.5" LX style stainless pipes somewhere in my parts pile
Skip to 40 seconds in so ya don't have to witness how weak my battery was at the time lol

Well at least it wasn't the typical YouTube video of some guy in flip flops walking to the camera and back.

Previous Car....

Mac Shorties, stock H-pipe Flowpath cat back = Sounded great, a little drone
Mac Shorties, O/R H-Pipe, Flowpath cat back = Sounded great, a lot of drone
Mac Shorties, O/R X-pipe, Flowpath cat back = Sounded best, a little drone

Current car...

Stock shorties, stock H-pipe Raven (Flowmaster knock off) cat back. Sounds great a little drone

Laying in wait....

BBK 1 5/8 LT's, undetermined short mid pipe, Raven cat back = I'm sure will sound obnoxious, with plenty of drone.
