In YOUR opinion: Best Anti-Theft Device

I have heard and seen many. All the Evos around here use these red boots. WTF are these? Are they effective?

I'm going to be looking into an anti-theft device but don't want lo-jack. Was thinking RFID device. Any suggestions?

What device do/would YOU use?

Why not get one with a pager that lets you also have a two way conversation with the thief as he drives away in your car? That would be super special

My car came w/PATS but I don't want people screwing around with the car either. Read vandalism which is very common on Mustangs. Get something with a microwave sensor in addition to the usual voltage drop stuff.

I have NO idea why you discounted Lojack but if you REALLY want to recover your car quickly after it's stolen, that's the system to get.

Some very good points in this thread. PATS is very effective and virtually impossible to defeat as long as your keys are with you. An alarm can help warn "YOU" that something is wrong with your car. I say "YOU" because no one else on the planet cares if your alarm is ringing. The two way alarm can be dangerous in some situations. I don't know about you but if I catch someone in the process of stealing my car, it's going to get ugly. In the end someone will get hurt pretty bad and your car is not worth your life in the worse case senario. I think PATS combine with a descent alarm with NO stickers on the window and a tracking system increases your chances of not losing your car but as said before, if they really wanted it, they'll get it. Oh and the quality of the alarm install is EVERYTHING.

alarms are pretty much useless now. everytime someone hears one, they think "dammit, someones alarm is going off again" and not "someones car is being stolen".

PATS can be defeated somewhat easily if you know what you're doing.

If you have and SCT 4 bank ship, you can disable the ECU. as long as the thief doesn't know about the chip, he cannot start the car, no matter what.

Aftermarket security systems useless huh?

So, a thief walks up to a really nice pair of Mustangs sitting in the mall parking lot - looks in the window of the first and sees a pair of blinking LEDs, cleverly mounted directly next to the door lock plungers in such a way that they appear Ford mounted them there. A second look confirms that the factory THEFT light in the cluster is blinking too. Looks inside of the other one and sees ONLY the factory THEFT light blinking in the cluster.

The pats system uses RFID in keys. Unless you have the Ford Star computer, your not going to steal it.

Guys the easiest form of theft deterrant, get yourself a quick-release hub with a Momo or whatever steering wheel.

How the hell will they get off with your car if they can't turn the damn wheels. It would be pretty easy to track your car down, just walk in a straight line from where you parked it.

I'd say most any alarm will be broken through if they are a good thief and want the car bad enough. If they want the car bad enough, they are going to need a tow truck to remove your car without a steering wheel. Even then it would be hard as **** cause they'd have to line it up pefectly. And if someone really does bring a tow truck to steal your car I'm sure yourself or someone would hear or see this going on.

Didn't want to give to much away but your totally right. Even with the NGS, you have to wait 10 mins. to get the car started. No thief will waste that kind of time stealing a car.

I don't know how they do it Jersey, but in NY, they flatbed the car away. They do not bother with tampering a PATS system.

Once the car is safely in their chop shop, they can reprogram the computer, replace it or chop the car up for parts.

what about that one that burns people lol? like flame throwers from under the doors.... cant beat that, not even with a 44. how about a removable stearing wheel or a fuel cut off switch. the thief will be screwed trying to start it up with not juice, maybe think its a dud lol
