Increase timing.. affects?

Im thinking about inc my timing 2 degrees from the 0-2k range, and one degree in the upper two ranges each. i know this should give me some more power, but what other affects will it have on my car. The setting i have now are after a tune and the guy said the a/f was good, but i swear my stangs running a bit rich. he has all the parameters set so i cant adjust them too high, but he left me 4 degrees open from 0-2k and 2 degrees open in 2-4 and 4-8. should i mess with it to get some more power? what are the affects of more timing? thanks

There downside for increasing timing is higher likelyhood of detonation. But what has been regarded as the best method for setting the best timing is to increase it one degree at a time until you start hearing pinging, then back it off 2 degrees.

hmm.. so i should be close than.. my timing is advanced 14 degrees now in the low range.. and 9 in the upper two, does that sounds right. im lost when it comes to tuning.

The 2 valves are not nearly as responsive to ignition timing as our 3 and 4 V cousins.

You already said that you suspected that your motor was running rich. Why don't you diagnose that issue first before attempting to gain minimal power by way of increased ignition timing. If you are truly running rich, you will notice much more of a performance improvement by getting your a/f ratio dialed in. Then you can worry about ignition timing.
