Info/help Needed

I am replacing the intake on my car.. took the carb off and the inside of the carb (venturi area) is black.. it wipes right off.. is this an indication of running too rich? or is there an intake leak?

also want to lower the front end .. how much of the coil do i cut to move the car an inch.. looking to go about 1 3/4 - 2 inches total

any help would be appreciated..

so would that be cased from the car loading up and backfiring or would it be a timing issue

thats what i was thinking. start the car up and take the air breather off and let it run. see if you notice anything. loosen up the distrib. bolt and adjust to wher eit sounds good (if you dont have a light).

others will chime in. Listen to the folks here. Theres a ton of knowledge here, justgotta find it!
