Injectors/MAF Calibration

I've always understood that all MAF's were calibrated to injector size. So that if you want to swap your fuel injectors, you also have to swap your MAF.

I just heard on another board, someone said that all Ford MAF's are calibrated the same...and that the injector calibration is in the computer instead.

They asked me what injector size I had for my MAF....and every ad I've seen specifies injector pph rate along with MAF size.... So...I'm thinking BS.

But still, I figure I'd better ask. Thanks.

This is true.

Only the '93 Cobra was like this, in which case the computer was calibrated for 24# injectors, and used the standard 87-93 MAF meter.

On another note, if you would like to change size injectors, without changing the MAF meter, you can do this with a chip, or a tuner like EEC Tuner, and TwEECer. Anderson PMS may also apply but I am not sure.... Using a chip or tuner will effectively make your computer programmed the same way the '93 computer is for injectors. I'll stop here as I don't want to sound even more confusing lol.

So what you're saying is...if I go to a good shop and get a dyno tune, they can do it there most likely? Sweet...cause this MAF cost almost $300 and I'd hate to have to buy another one, although I'd never buy one like this again. Total POS. Maybe cause its designed for a stock intake I guess...but yeah, its entirely too sensitive and effectively doesnt allow for cold air. Most I can do is run my modified stock airbox. (dremeled back)

I really recomend that you sell your MAF, and buy a properly calibrated Pro-M. Pro-M is hands down the best MAF company out there, period.

The cost of a custom chip and dyno time would more than likely be more exspensive than buying a new Pro-M. I've had very good sucess with 3 different MAF's that were USED. My current MAF is used...

Well Im REALLY wanting the dyno tune cause...I'm very NOT stock, and running a VERY stock prom chip. But thanks for the tip man.

Yeah from what I've seen, I'm extremely disappointed with this Granatelli unit. Finish quality is rather sloppy.... The price was ungodly.. Its entirely too sensitive... I rotate it 30 degrees and the motor stumbles. I change the intake duct BEHIND the MAF..and move the MAF forward about 3 inches..the car almost refuses to run. Does nothing but misfire and spike the powerband all around. I hate it...

So, the Pro-M's WON'T do this?

The 93 cobra maf is NOT the same as other 89-93 maf's.
