I recently installed a Mac O/R Pro-chamber & weld-in Flowmaster Super 40's on my 2001 GT. I went with this combo based on hearing it on another mustang & although it's has a nice tone, it's just not lound enough for me. I get compliments but have been more satisfied with set-ups on my previous stangs. I knew that the pro-chamber would mellow the tone but I was certainly expecting more sound. My question is would I be better off installing an X-pipe instead of the pro-chamber (such as UPR or Bassani) or replace the super 40's with original 40's ? I'vs also tossed around the idea of installing the Mac stainless steel catback. Needless to say, I'm a bit torn & unsure which way to go. What would you do ?

well if you like the tone, but its just not loud enough, i would just swap the por chamber for the o/r h pipe. i think they are a bit louder then the pro chamber. x will make it more raspy. i dont know what you like. or cough big bucks and get the bassani catback, that thing with the pro chamber should sound awsome. my buddy has just the bassani catback, and his exhaust is just as loud as mine. i have magnaflow catback, catted x pipe, and l/t headers.

the problem could be 2 things...ur cats like adrenln said...or it could be ur flows...how many chambers are in it? if u have the 1 chambered flows then swap out ur midpipe with the off road h pipe

You want a O/R H pipe, it is going to be quite a bit louder than your pro-chamber and sound great with your flows.

It will make the sound louder and less mellow with an O/R H pipe. Hell, you can just buy the center section of the Mac O/R H and have both IIRC.

It will get louder as it breaks in, how much louder Im not sure. I know that I love the sound of my Prochamber, and it mos def brought the car to life over the stock h pipe.

Ditch the flows for Mac flowpaths and I think you'll change your mind. That's what I did and I'll never go back to flowmaster.

O/R X-pipe, SS catback with welded Dynomax "Race" Bullets - Loudest I've heard so far.

Friend has a '99 Cobra with O/R H-pipe, "regular" Magnaflow weld-in mufflers and mine is probably twice as loud (or more) at WOT.

well mufflers sound same on similar setups so if you have been happy with flowmasters in the past I would look at other things. you have to remeber weld in is only 2 1/4 pipe.

I am not sure what the difference between super 40 and 40 series are.

If it were me I would call flowmaster and see if it is the difference between the series muffler or the prochamber that is calming the sound down from what you are used to.

I mean if loud is what you want just strait pipe it. magnapacks and loudmouths are also louder than flows period.

Thanks for all the ideas. After comtemplating several set-ups, I think I'm going to install a Mac Cat-back since I hear that it sounds awesome when paired with a pro-chamber. I think the reason my exhaust is quiet is due to the Super 40's. In heinsight, I should have stuck with my original plan of installing original 40's. I really think that would have produced the loud, raw sound I was looking for. I'd still be real curious to hear how the super 40's would sound when paired with an X or H pipe. What sealed the deal for me is the 3.5" rolled tips that included in the Mac cat-back. I hope I'm happy with this set-up.....otherwise, I'll be looking to sell some good parts cheap !
