Installed a new set of Corbeau seats, now i gotta pull 'em back out.

My '90 hatch had a full leather interior from a '96 Cobra up until last night. I wanted seats that were a little more supportive and that sat a bit lower. Ordered up a set of the Corbeau GTSII seats and brackets from 50resto. I got the seats and they were very comfortable during the try-out on my living room floor. Finally got around to installing them last night and they're not gonna work for me. I needed something a bit lower than stock to make room for my long-ass legs. I figured these would fit the bill since they're more "dished" than the stock seats and have custom brackets designed for the Mustang. Turns out, they're about 1" HIGHER than stock. Fine and dandy for a shorter person, but not for someone who's 6'2" and mostly legs. So, looks like i get to pull them back out tonight. Not sure what i'm gonna do since returning them is not really an option. Between restocking fees, shipping charges, hassle, etc it's just not worth it.

If anyone wants a set of 1-day-old Corbeaus, let me know. I need to get something out of these seats. Can't afford to have nearly $900 sitting on my floor in the garage. Or maybe i'll just keep them and see if a tilt wheel gives me the room i need. Arrrrrgh!

On a good note, since i already had the seats out of the car i took the opportunity to replace the heater core. Holy crap it sucked. Some Ford designer needs to be drug into the street and shot, then urinated on. I did find one thing that made it much easier though. I made a small cut in the right hand side of the HVAC box using a hack saw. This allowed the front of the box to pivot up, making for easy removal/install of the heater core. After the new core was in and the screws were put back in, the box was just as sturdy as it was without the cut.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, guys. I spent the whole July 4th weekend working on the cars (and watching fireworks, of course). For those who are interested, the seats are black cloth. I don't have any pics, but there's a picture of them on the 50resto.com site. I've got someone coming to look at the seats tonight, so they may actually be sold. <crosses fingers>

I thought about altering the Corbeau brackets, or fabbing up some new brackets, but I don't really want to start cutting things up. I'm already going to lose a lot of money reselling the seats. If i cut up the brackets, that's just more money that i'm out. Not only that, but even if i could lower the seats a full inch, i'd be right back to stock height. I'm really wanting something that's lower than stock, if possible. If i were just 5'10" this wouldn't be a problem.

I had three seats all out at once this weekend to compare. I had the stock seat from my '92 hatch, the '96 cobra seat that's currently in my '90 hatch, and the Corbeaus. The Corbeaus actually sit lower than Cobra seats, and are about even with the stock seats. The big difference is that the Corbeau seats are much, much firmer than the factory Ford seats, so you don't sink down at all in them. So, even though they have similar physical dimensions, you end up in a higher seating position. I really should have taken some comparison pictures, but i was in a hurry to get at least one car operational. I didn't want to get stuck sitting on a milk crate to get to work today.

I think i just need to find someone else who has non-stock seats in a fox that i like (and that i fit in) and then just order a set of those. I'm definitely going to check out the Speedware brackets though. I don't think they'll work with these seats since there doesn't seem to be any way to get them as low as i'd like, but it's worth looking into.

Kirkey has some damn nice seats, but not exactly what i'd want in a daily driver.

I'm using the actual Corbeau seat tracks, not the adapters.

The problem isn't how far back the seats go, it's how high they sit. Firstly, they're too high for me. I need something lower than stock and these are just a tad higher. Secondly, i have long legs and my knees/thighs end up hitting the steering wheel due to the height. The tracks definitely move far enough back, they just sit too high. It's not the fault of the tracks, really. The seats are just so firm that you don't sink in them like you do with the stock seats.
