Installed King Cobra clutch...and questions inside...

V8, glad to see we are on the same page (not disengaging all the way equaling being too loose, as you put it). :)

5sp, yep, if the wheels dont turn with the clutch pedal in and it in first, it is disengaging all the way.
do be very careful with the car while it is on jack stands. i mean real careful (it is actually something i personally dont recommend to strangers, as it can go wrong).

now NOTE: since you say the vibes go away when depressing the pedal an inch or so (which i did not know before), i agree with V8 about the TOB. i would just dial in a bit of preload (as you should anyhow) so you know you are disengaging the clutch as much as possible and see what gives. it may simply be a TOB/retainer issue.

good luck bud.

Thanks Hissin and V8- Alright well the wheels don't spin until about an inch and a half off the floor (rear in the air)...that is when it just starts to spin...

So you think that if I (turn the firewall adjuster to the left) makes it grab higher up that it might press the TOB against the pressure plate more and possibly get rid of the vibe...

Will this "sometimes" occuring clutch pedal vibration hurt anything if I take down the track a couple times...

It didn't vibrate this morning but when I got out of class I went to Wal-mart to pick up some new Autolite 3924's and it was vibrating...

Also...this may be where my problem lies...

I remember when the transmission was off I was just moving the clutch fork back and forth and looked at the bearing retainer and the hollow cylinder (what the TOB rides on) was contacting the gear that goes in the clutch (sorry can't remember what there called) when I would pull the fork back and forth...does this make sense to anybody? Is that good enough explanation...if it is contacting it while that "gear" is spinning could that make the vibration in the pedal...?

Do I need on of these?

I am so low on money right now...but I do what I got to do...

your clutch seems properly disengaging, which means you do have some preload.

I remember you said you had a front seal leak before hand, did you fix that?? how did the old bearing retainer look, was it grooved?? if the old one wasn't grooved, you should be fine.

lastly, how much play do you have on the top of the clutch pedal before it gets stiff (disengagement)

The King Cobra is not hard to push in at all...my stock clutch with the adjustable cable (that was the problem  ) was considerably harder than the King Cobra...the KC feels mushy compared to the previous...so I am happy :D

...

thats crazy!! my KC clutch was stiffer than a dead man on viagra

Anybody know some of the answers in post #21 and #22...?

Do I need a bearing retainer...the TOB wasn't going perfectly straight in and out...it was going at an angle...because the bearing retainer it rides on was going from side to side...it would lay against the gear part of the input shaft when I moved it back and forth?

In order to check your bearing retainer all you have to do is look at it. If there are wear grooves or scoring in it then it should be replaced.
I'm not sure how your bearing retainer is moving because it should be bolted up to your tranny with 4 bolts.
The input shaft will have a little play in it if thats what you are talking about.

Yeah I looked at it and didn't see anything neccesarily wrong with it...or maybe I looked at the gears on the input shaft :bang:

Yeah I know it is bolted up with 4 bolts...but I just remember that a tube was hitting the gears on the input shaft when I would go from side to side with the clutch fork...remember I did the full motion with it because there is no cable or pressure plate holding it back or in one spot...

I hate to tear it down and find out there is nothing wrong...
