Verdict:

I also put my Dr. Gas X-pipe back on (normally I only put it on for track days).

Compared to the MAC cat-back and catted H-pipe, it's quieter at idle, and maybe 10-20% louder at half throttle, and 50% louder at WOT. Got a nice scream to it .

Compared to the MAC cat-back and Dr. Gas X-pipe, it's much, much quieter at idle, much quieter at half throttle, and quieter at WOT.

How's that for subjective?

No more "hammering" effect from the X-pipe and chambered mufflers, it sounds very smooth, higher tone than an H-pipe, but quite nice. I think I'll run this combo for daily driving.

I wasn't impressed with fitment, though. I'm going to have to swing by the local muffler shop and have them refit the tips for me, maybe have to bend the tail pipes just a tad, and then weld all the segments together (they're clamped now). It's only money.

Also, I don't know how much I like the 3.5" tips. I could be just as happy with 2.5" tips. Who knows, if I can find some chrome 2.5" tips I may swap them out .

Ditto on the fitment. My right side tip is always up near the bumper, and it will find it's way back up there if I adjust and re-tighten. It seems like they just don't bend the pipes past the mufflers just right.

But it does have a great sound to it.

Pics later, sound clips maybe. Now dinner. This silly project took me the better part of 5 hours altogether, the last two were spent fighting those tips.

Did you put a regular screw w/ a hex head in place of the alan head screw? That really makes a difference. Also, put some loctite on it.

It really helped my magnaflow tips problem.

I agree w/ the 3.5" tips. Very gaudy. I would like to see some 3" on the car first.

Did you do it by yourself? Not fun, huh? Glad I had my craftsman glasses on; I had enough crap fall on my face to want to scream!!!

If the pipes that go over the axles don't point exactly where you want the tips to point, it will make things difficult as well. It took me a while to get them to line up right.

I'm just going to let the muffler shop weld everything once it's lined up, and lose the clamps altogether .

The two places I'm having the most trouble are the passenger side muffler, which is too damn close to the driveshaft (I'm pretty sure I actually smacked the drive shaft once on my test drive yesterday, felt it right up through the shifter), and the driver side tip -- something's wrong with the clamping mechanism, and it never really gets tight even when you winch it all the way down. Since the tip itself has a hanger on it, after you drive for a bit it angles up and starts resting against the bumper cover. Grrrrr....

The muffler shop should be able to fix both of these problems pretty quickly. Hopefully they'll be willing to work on my cat-back even with the offroad X-pipe installed. Some shops are *******s about that.
