Installed New autometer Temp guage Now stock one wont work!

How can i hook up both? there isnt enough room on top to connect the rubber boot thing to the top of the bolt... then i tried cutting that off and hooking it up like i did the new one but still wouldnt work... and doing that caused my new guage not to work...

so im guessing you can't hook up both? just wondering?

Please share with us what you have done exactly, because I couldnt follow it.

Each gauge needs its own sender and you cant use a Tee fitting for temp senders (well, you can but it makes the gauges less accurate).

ok i installed the new sender on the front of lower intake... which the stock water temp sender was connected too...

i just wanna know how can hook up both? so i can compare how far off things really were... and if i can't its still ok...

You need to find a second port for the stock sender to get installed into.

I used the rear driver side port on the lower intake (this is not a real accurate location because it doesnt get decent coolant flow). You could also use the T-stat housing for the sender too.

Did the same thing that Hissin suggested and it keeps me from having a dead gauge on the dash. Granted like he said its not as accurate due to poor flow but hey the stock gauge isn't accurate anyway. Maybe with the two inaccuracies combined the stocker might read correctly

I do the same thing as well. I like to have the 2 gauges just for cross checking accuracy and coolant flow. My Autometer one is in the back of the intake and I left the stock one where it is. They check out pretty well, probably cause I put a new stock sending unit and my car only has 38k on it but its nice to have both. I also did the same with my oil pressure gauge....

I personally hate having a dead gauge in the instrument cluster. I don't go by it but it looks crappy IMHO to see the needle bottomed out when the car is running.

When I replaced my therm housing /w a o'reillys part it had a port on it for a temp sender... it's plugged right now (way it came) but you can back it out and screw a sender in there. I'm sure that would be a pretty accurate reading, cost $9

I put mine in the thermostat housing and used an Auto Meter adaptor to put it right in. Far more accurate than the factory gauge.

i just wanted to see how far that stock one was really off! and it does bother me to have a dead gauge on the stock cluster... i dunno i might leave it for now and hook it up some time...




also with the new one it reads about 200-206 when it was pretty warm out... and i have a 180 t-stat... that normal??

I first installed my autometer gauge in the back of the intake and it read waaay off of what I thought it should be. I'm talking close to a 30* difference in temperature. The autometer gauge was reading around 140-150 while the stock gauge was showing temps around the 1/2 marker. After I swapped their locations the autometer now reads the correct temp (~190) while the factory gauge now is between the 1/8 and 1/4 mark. Just a heads up…as said before the rear port on the lower intake is not a good source for a temp probe.

If your t-stat were to get stuck closed, your gauge might not reflect engine temps accurately.
