Installed new engine, Tranny Inoperable

I just installed my new GT40 crate engine. After I fired the engine (runs okay) I realized the tranny was completely missing in action. My mechanic seems to think the torque converter was not seated properly. He also said that as a result the tranny was probably ruined.

Any thoughts on this. Its a 1990 GT with a stock AOD with a Lentech valve body.

If indeed the tranny is shot, can I expect to at least save the valve body?
Also if I need a rebuild, what sounds like a reasonable cost .

Depends where you go. I was quoted between $1000 and $1300 to have my AOD rebuilt.

It sounds like the converter was not seated properly. What happens is that is breaks the front pump. Man, that sucks, I would hold him accountable if he installed it. AOD are able to be rebulit for was has been stated above.
