Ready to install 66 Mustang front fenders. Where do the shims go? It's been a long time since the fenders were removed from the car. There are 3 possible places: top of the fender, back of fender or through side of cowl panel.

The shims are used to correct the front to rear and in/out adjustment at the rear of the fender. To adjust in/out, insert or remove shims on the stud between the cowl and fender. To adjust front/rear insert or remove shims between the bracket on the A-pillar and the fender (the one you reach by opening the door.

Make sure your door adjustment has been completed first.

most mustangs dont use shims on the front fender adjustments
problem with alignnment may be the part of the inner fender approns
that forms the shelf that the fenders rest on may be bent down, its just
a flap of sheet metal and may be bent up or down to adjust fit at fender
and hood, if the fenders have been of the car just leaning over the approns can
bend them down. the only place i have ever used a shim is at the bottom
of the fender in front of the door, and even that can be bent up or down
to rais or lower the rear of the fender. 69 shelbys do use shim between fenders
and approns but i always leave them out and just bend the appron up till fender
fits flush with the hood, looks a lot cleaner with out the shims
