just bought a cam from comp cams with .510" and .512" lift. putting it in a 351w, the engine is out of the car on a stand. What are step by step directions to install a cam??..i have little experience on mechanics so every bit of info helps...i thought i just had to take off the water pump, timing gears and chains, am i right?..or do i have to take of the crank pullie ,dampner, and the front cover?? any special tools ill need to take the crank pullie off??? someone please help its greatly appreciated ..thanks!!

Use the internet, search for info at Comp Cams, Trick Flow or buy yourself a Repair manual / or a book including this.
You need a lot of information, and its to much to write down here.... Good Luck

get some engine grease too. dont know if you knew this but you gotta smear it all over the journals and lobes of the cam before you slide it in. also it helps if you got at least one of the bolts that holds on the gear on the end of the cam so you can slide it in straighter so your not hitting the cam lobes on the bearings or anything.

93Stang - the way you're asking questions leads me to think you might be in a bit over your head here. I'd suggest you get a buddy that's done this before to help you through the first one.

I had a friend help me install my first cam in a motor. Much easier to watch someone do it first.
