Installing a Mota-Lita Steering Wheel

Has anyone install a Mota Lita MK3 steering wheel on a 1966 Mustang? I recently purchased one with the boss kit (F-24) and installed it on my Mustang. It looks nice, but the boss has a 1/2" gap from the steering column. I torqued it on to specs, removed it and re-torqued it again to check if it would sit better...still 1/2" gap.

Any way to reduce the gap or is this normal for this boss?

Loosen the two nuts under the dash that secure the steering column and slide the column towards the steering wheel to close the gap.

I installed one. You may notice that the turn signal cam doesn't match with the cancellors on the wheel hub. You may have to bend them inwards. They are set too far out from the center of the hub (as compared to the stock wheel )

I put a Momo on mine and I also had a gap,the horn wouldnt work and sliding the column didnt completely close the gap

This is exactly what I have been arguing with Tony Branda about. The damn boss is 1/2 inch from the column casing and looks like hell. They suggested loosening the column to close the gap but the shaft comes up with the column (circlip at bearing ties them together!) I am sending the whole thing back to Branda today. They say that Moto Lita removed the taper/ring at the other end of the boss that used to hide the wiring and gap. Pretty poor service to say they are helpless to get it right. Lecarra said today that they are about a month away from their approved replacement. So, screw Moto Lita. Tom

That depends on what year of car you have. The columns slide on the shaft of the 65-early 67 cars.

There are other options as well. Flaming river sells a fully polished adapter. If you have a flaming river column, especially the GM version, it works great. However I'm not completely sure of the compatibility between the orig column and the FR polished adapters.

I loosened the two bolts under the dash and slid the steering wheel column up about 1/4" only (far as it would go). This leaves a 1/4" gap, which is ok for now. I might modify the boss sometime later or look for an alternative boss (Lecarra?).

I am surprised this "expensive" setup doesn't fit like its suppose to. I believe this boss is used for most 60's and some 70's Mustangs, which might explain some of the fitting issues???
