Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?
A new actuator for less than $5. Fix one side for $18, do both sides for only $25. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.
Can you give more information so we know exactly what you are doing? Is the 91 originally equipped with power windows/locks and the donor doors are not, or do the doors have power and the car does not?
If the car has power, and you are swapping the power ot non power doors, you have to swap over the regulators and locks and wiring. Be careful with the power regulator as it is spring loaded and can pinch or cut if your hands are in the way.
If you don't have power, you will probably need to get the under dash harness that ties the doors to the main harness and a power window circuit breaker for the fuse box.
My car right now does not have any power options, no locks or windows. The donor doors have everything for power options, locks windows,etc...
I thought it may be as simple as taking all the stuff off the donor doors and putting it on to my doors. And just hoking into my fuse panel in an open slot. Didn't know I had to splice into a harness in my dash???
OK, then you are good. If the doors have the complete wiring in them, including the rubber seal and the plug in connectors, then all you need are 2 things. There is a totally separate wiring harness that runs from door to door under the dash right below the windshield. It has a two plug connector on it that attaches to the main car wiring harness behind the driver's side kick panel. My car didn't have this harness and I just pulled one from a donor 4 cyl at the salvage yard. Then you need a circuit breaker for the fuse panel, I believe the top rectangular metal box on here:
After you install the parts, then you should be in business. I tried making my own wiring harness first, but it for some reason did not work very well, not enough power to operate the locks. If your plugs were cut, then you have to make your own wiring and solder the connections. Plus using the connectors allows you to easily unplug it if you need to later on. Wiring info:
Right on, thanks for the help. i just got the doors and looks like the plugs are still attached. So the passenger door plug will attached to the set of wires under the dash and then to the drivers side plug then splits off to the fuse panel? Correct?
