Installing timing chain

Also, why are wanting to put in a new one, you shouldnt have to as its a pretty stout double roller from the factory. you shouldnt be putting a new one in until you swap cams

a friend of mine was parting out his 5.0 and sold it to me, brand new in package, for $10, so i couldn't pass it up...

It's not really difficult, but the first time you do it, be prepared to spend 4 to 8 hours, and do it while the parts stores are open. You need a balancer puller. The hardest part is getting the waterpump bolts out if they have not been out before. There is risk of carnage here. Next deal is to clean everything.

Most gasket companies sell a timing cover gasket set just for this. Works great. Should include the front seal.

Drain the oil from at least the front sump before you fire the engine.

Remember the pesky bolts that hold the cover to the oil pan.

Gets easier the next time.
