Hi::D
I have a stock 66 coupe w/ regular 289. I want to upgrade the carburetor to a 4B & add a new intake manifold. I am loking at ab Edelbrock Performer 2121 and Edelbrock 600cfm Carburetor. Does anyone have any other suggestions? What about a good place to get them?

Thanks,
Frank

Hey Frank. Well I have a 302 which is basically the same(289 stuff is interchangeable) and I went with a Weiand aluminum intake manifold and a Holley 600cfm double pumper. They are a great combination, affordable and streetable. I highly recommend. Have fun.

I wouldn't waste money on a new 2121. It's basically a clone of the stock 4 bbl iron 289 intake which sell for $50. Or the 83-85 Aluminum stock Mustang GT unit which also sells for $50. Want a better intake? Look at these: Performer RPM or the Air Gap version, Fords own A321, C90X, Shelby Cobra high rise, Edelbrocks older F4B, or Weiand's Stealth.

On a factory stock 289 you want a 500 cfm carb. A 600 cfm is a waste of time. I'm not saying that you can't get the 600 to run OK but the 500 will have better throttle response and get better gas mileage.

The 600 would be what you want if you plan to rev the motor over 5500 rpm but the stock cam and heads pretty much give up the ghost at 4500-5000. Not much point in revving them over that.

Are you an auto or standard? If your a standard I would get I high single plane highrise if your a auto I would get dual plane High rise. I would stick with 500 cfm... You gotta marry all your componets together so they work well together, you might want to list what else has been done, gears, tranny, ignition, etc...

Ditto. I would go with the Performer RPM and go with a 500-575 cfm carb. For a stock 289 a 600 DP too big.

570 Holley Street Avenger and Weiand Stealth intake.
Then make sure to get a decent exhaust on the car.
Preferably headers, if you don't already.

A double pumper, even a small one, is not the way to go with an auto tranny
OR
if you want to get some sort of fuel economy...

Sorry Gunmetal...
Your T5 makes your combo tolerable IMO.
And I am not knocking DPs, I am a diehard Holley DP fan myself.
Just gotta call 'em like I see 'em.
