Intake Manifold Project - Progress Thread

PROBLEM

ran into a bit of an issue. i can post pics if necessary but i think itll be straight forward to those who know whats going on.

i just got done pulling out my COPs and the last one i pulled had a white powder residue on the rubber boot. the residue is all up and down the boot. what could this be from?

id like to say its a coolant leak but the funny thing is, this COP in question is on the passenger's side, closest to the firewall.

could it still be a coolant leak or is their another explanation?

if it is a manifold leak, im glad i decided to change my manifold

If you have not replaced your spark plugs yet, before you do, vacuum out each of the spark plug holes first. You can do this by using a wet and dry vacuum. Look for the smallest plastic attachment for the vacuum hose, then tape a straw to it. Make sure you tape up the straw and hole in the vacuum attachment good. Don't leave any opennings. This works really well, and comes in handy if you have coolant in any of your spark plug holes. The white residue could be a sign of a coolant leak. Once your intake is removed, check your heater core fittings at the firewall and on the engine. You may have a leak back there. Good luck, Tommy.

the intake is replaced and the car is running!

the spark plugs were replaced about 5k miles ago with Motorcraft platnium plugs.

the heater core hoses were replaced today. neither of which looked like they were leaking.

tomorrow ill take a closer look at my old manifold to look for signs of a coolant leak as well as the old heater core hoses.

as far as everything else is concerned. the car feels like it picked up ~ 15hp

i am quite happy with how everything turned out and i will post up pics/a writeup in a few days!
