I have a 97 GT and the horrible intake manifold it came with and had the intake replaced by ford around 2000-01. I was just wondering if anybody knows which manifold was put in its place, a revised pre-pi version or the pi-intake? or if nobody knows, could someone describe the difference, (visually), of the 96-98 manifolds and the 99 up PI version. i'm lookin to do the pi intake converison if i dont have it, anyone know where i can get those adapter plates?(besides livernois) thanks to all.

May as well put on a PI intake, it'll net you some extra horsepower and shouldn't break..
A guy on here was selling adapter plates I though. Might want to try a search for the thread with the info.

my original replacement intake was non-pi.

i still have it. it is donating plastic for my fab job. the pi most front intake runner (at the front of motor.) goes to the driver's side. not the water crossover, but the runner. they put non-pi's on at the dealer.

Both intakes from a glance look identical which is good if you're worried about smog inspection :D . If the dealer installed your intake you have a stock non-PI intake. Do the PI intake, best bang for the buck along with PI cams and the stock tune works with both. I used the plates from unitedmajority.com,they were $100 but some folks say you don't need them. If you have an aluminum crossover on your non-PI intake just use it on the PI intake. Otherwise you will have to drill and tap a hole in the new PI intake crossover for the temp.sensor. Also, don't use a PI intake with a plastic crossover. You can PM me if you have any specific questions. Good luck.

hey whats up tom !

BTW the T-fitting works great.. that is probally the best way too install the other sensor.

you know there's always a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that says they heard it from someone that it doesn't work.

I've used it for over 6 months and nothing wrong. (well up until the accident) then brian stole it :(

If you set the non-PI next to the PI intake, one is obviously taller. Can't remember which though and I don't have my old pictures on this new laptop. Also, as mentioned, the PI has one coolant sensor and the non-PI has two. Other than that, they are pretty much alike.

and mel96gt you live in a place that would actually inspect the intake durring emmisons testing.. wow that sucks..

Yes, it is called Kalifornia. The CARB (Calif. Air Resources Board) Nazis smog inspection includes an emission AND visual inspection. In other words, if your car passes the "sniffer" test BUT is missing smog equipment you fail the smog test! That is why I think the PI intake or head swap conversion is great. Furthermore, if your engine has aftermarket parts without CARB approval sticker=fail. FWIW, the PI intake is taller but only when they are side by side since the bottom of the PI intake has longer runners.

I think the T-fitting is a really good idea especially if you have a PI intake with a plastic crossover. I didn't go that route since I had heard the T-fitting didn't work well. It wasn't too bad to drill and tap the hole in aluminum, I used a small drill press with a 9/16" bit and ordered the special tap thru the internet.

Thanks everyone for the fast response. I just read about the whole lawsuit with Ford, and the intake problem. I got mine replaced during the recall years, am i involved in the recal too? I wouldnt think so but it would be sweet to put some money to the pi-conversion. thanks again.
