Intake Spacer

Hey guys, i wanted to get an idea of who runs an intake manifold spacer? Im looking for a little more low end torque out of my combo (see sig). I love the way the motor pulls on the top end but as a daily driver, i would like to see a little more low end grunt...below 2500 rpm when the cam wakes up. I know that a longer runner length will bring my torque curve down a little, but i wanted to get some real experience with these spacers. Anyone have any before and after data, dyno testing, fuel efficiency gains? I think the spacer would be a pretty quick and easy change as opposed to advancing the cam! I will have the upper off in the next couple days to adjust the valvetrain so now would be a good time! Thanks in advance!

been in 5.0's with and without a spacer and in many different situations i couldnt tell the difference.

Don't waste your money. You are not going to see much. What's your timing at? You could bump it up a bit if it's not too high already.

I say get the spacer. the spacer is not your issue it is that Trick Flow Street Heat Intake Manifold. yes it makes more HP but it gives up some grunt down low vs stock, cobra, or tubular gt40

Well right now i have the timing set at base 10° at the distributor...and i do all my timing changes through the tweecer. On my current daily driving tune im running 4° advance on part throttle and WOT and 2° advnace and idle. I have different tunes setup for more timing all the way up to 18° and some advance in the base timing tables and it holds that just fine with no detonation. I think there is a point of diminishing returns with timing...and that point seems to be around 16° for this motor. I was just wondering what experience people had with intake spacers for longer runner length. Any other input...suggestions? Thanks

longer runner length = more torque
more cubes = more torque
keep the exhort small. 2.5" is good

Does anyone have any personal before and after experience? Obviously more cubes is not the route im looking to explore right now....and the exhaust is already long tubes, O/R H, and 40 series flows.

I run a 1" spacer on my Cobra intake just so I can get to the injectors and sensors on the lower intake easier.
Might have picked up a little torque. Upper doesnt get as hot either.

I ran a spacer and honestly it didnothing but gave me clearence.. It diddnt even reduce heat.. They are mainly for clearing tall valve covers..

not all spacers are created equal. A good spacer will help reduce intake air temp. I get to run extra boost.

Does the Cobra intake w/ 1" spacer clear the stock hood?

I dont have a stock hood but I can positively say No it wont clear a stock hood.

It sits the top of the intake almost level with the wiper cowl. And with the hood open you can see that the front of the intake is higher than the fenders.

I like the spacer, but had to lose the strut tower brace because the spacer also rose the cold air intake tube.. Still looking a brace the will work with the spacer. Already had a cowl hood so I am not sure if the spacer would have fit under the stock hood. Just my .02.

I have a spacer. As far as i can tell it didn't do anything. It didn't even keep the intake cooler

I only bought it because i found one for a Cobra intake for $10 on ebay

actually that's not true. it clears. the hood domes over the center of the engine compartment. there's a guy i met here in my town who has a coupe with a cobra intake. i used his car to see how to run the vac lines on my cobra intake and he has a 1" spacer and he still uses the stock hood. it rubs a TINY bit on the hood bracing, like an inch, right where it v's towards the passenger side of the car. but that's it. he might have had vert or energy suspension mounts though.

I have a 1 inch spacer just to clear my valve covers. I never got a chance to do a before and after comparison but the gains would be very minimal if any. The TFS intake really doesn't wake up till 3kish rpm. A better intake for low end torque would be the cobra/gt40/explorer or an edelbrock.

With my 1 inch spacer and TFS top end I had to cut one of the bracing under the stock hood to get it to clear. The part that splits from the center brace towards the driver side has to go.

I agree, and think that the intake is your problem. I run gt40p heads with a slightly ported explorer intake, 1.7 rr's, and a stock HO cam, and I have so much damn torque, it roasts the tires. The damn thing is all torque, and quits just after 5k because of the lousy HO cam. (I'm prepping to swap it out soon)

My bro runs gt40 heads with an explorer intake, 1.6 rr's, and a tfs 1 cam. He makes easily as much torque as I do. It pulls like a mother ****er right off the line. His tfs cam makes power up to 6k too, so he's got the best of both worlds.

If you're really looking for more torque, I'd suggest selling off the intake and picking up an explorer unit. You won't lose HP, and only have torque to gain. You may even make some extra cash off it too, as explorer intakes are relatively cheap.

The MM Brace works awesome with this intake and spacer
