is a harmonic dampener and a harmonic balancer the same thing?

How many guys does it take to answer a thread? Apparently at least three. One to answer the question, and several more to agree with him.

OR if he's wrong, 10 guys to jump at the opportunity to prove their worth around here and state the facts.

Then another guy to ask another question not pertaining to the original, and another 5 or 6 guys to answer that one. If it's an opinion question it will usually turn into a flamefest.

Oh by the way, it's the same thing. :D

Ok, so let me get this straight. I am the first one agreeing with you here Chris. Now we need two more folks to agree. Or we need 10 guys to disagree (or would it be 20 since I agreed with you too?). I think I am getting this.

BTW, Grady's post had not hit the bricks by the time the reply page loaded (I thought I was the first one to reply). Otherwise, I would have made some stupid reply to Grady's. :D

Well Grady got the first word in, so looks like we're agreeing with him. But see? You raised the question that has nothing to do with the original thread, and now we're all gonna get sidetracked on it. :D +1!!

Please excuse my questioning for this, but i'm just trying to get it straight. From what i know, on my 5.0, the crankshaft is externally balanced by a balancer. On my friend's 04GT, the crankshaft is internally balanced according to him, but it still has a pulley aka the dampener.

SO from that i think the balancer is external and the dampener is just a sort of spacer so that the crank pulley has something to rest on since the crank is internally balanced.

Anyone confirm......

Negative. On the 5.0 (externally balanced), the balancer bolts to the crank, and a seperate pulley bolts to the balancer. The pulley on your friends 4.6 is just a pulley I'm guessing. There's a difference in a pulley and balancer. Although I didn't know the 4.6's were internally balanced.
