Is a K&N worth it??

Thats one persons findings...at least you come with back-up. I acctualy did the same thing last time i went to the track and i noticed basicaly the complete oposite you did. i ran an average of .17 slower with the snorkle and the fastest time of the day (the one in my profile) was without it.
The prob with these tests is that its impossible to duplicate a run...average is close but not acurate enough. A dyno is more accurate, but many things can affect it also. Bottom line, as 007 rudely pointed out, its a seat of the pants thing...take it out, see if you like it and make a desision. For me, any loss or gain that might come of it is completely overshadowed by the cool sound of the engine without it.
That's a really good point Airwolf, I should have tried it on a few different days to see if higher or lower air temp would change the results, also. For a more accurate test, a custom tune should have been done stock, and again after removing the snorkle, to correct any lean/rich spots.
The results I got, were for my car only, and not a tried and true test, as Airwolf pointed out, not all Stangs may respond the same as mine.

Nothing like some pissed off mother ****ers! Put the K&N in, remove the snorkel if you want and enjoy! Don't take it out on the dog...if you want to do that come try it on my two Rotties first who are the love of my life. Hope you are fast because you damn sure won't be after that little kick. 235lbs of big dogs at you.

Keep in mind you can't just yank the snorkel off and expect the computer to adjust right away.

Does that mean if i yank the snorkel and put a K&N on i should pull the neg. battery lead to reset the computer and let it learn all over again????

Look, you seem like a fair enough guy. All I want is some decent tech talk around here. Whether or not to have a silencer as measured by your ass on the seat, is just so ridiculous to me. Let alone judging how exhausts mods affect the decision from such information.

I agree with you that the butt dyno is rediculous as Ive been a car buff for many years now. Butt dyno's lie. In my previous car I had a Superchip put in and was running slow 1/4 mile times(for that car). Removed the chip, times went down but I could have swore I should have been doing much better with the chip as the cars behavior had changed.

I never said that I got any gains, in my original post I said that I didnt notice much of a diffrence but it sounded good and seemed to rev abit easier(wich would make sence as the car is now breathing through a pipe vs a straw). Several days later after the original link I put in earlier, Im breaking the tires loose more often then I did before and this is just an observation or maybee Im getting more comfortable with the car.

The problem is with a mod such as this one, it is realy hard to get either consistent times or dyno's that will reflect a increase. My previous car lost 5HP on the dyno, but the community on average would shave off on average .2 in the 1/4 mile. Again schetchy, however, when you consider the air box is sucking in hot hair from the engine on a dyno(as its not moving), it makes sence that when your going down a 1/4 mile track or the street youve got fresh air flowing through, thus the temps in the engine bay deminish wich in "theory" should result in more power.

As for the exhaust work and the snorkle removal, maybee I was talking out of my ass abit, but I was making an observation based on everything I was reading. I almost didnt bother removing the snorkle as everyone was saying its not worth the time... Then I noticed everyone that is saying this had exhaust work. So I tried it out myself and here we are.

I'm leaving it out, I definitly know the car isint starved for air and even considering loosing the housing completly like you did because of the statement you made.

Thats my 2cents for whatever its worth,

Well, just for the hell of it. i went for a drive first. I got on the car hard chirping gears and all that.

Then i yanked the silencer out in 5 mins (real easy to do)

Then i went for another drive. I noticed the car sounded like it had a deeper growl to it. I didn't notice really if it revved faster and was faster at all. It was a cool, dry night so the car was haulin' ass in general. I don't really think you'll notice 260HP vs. 262 HP.

But it's out, and i'll leave it out.

Thanks for comming back and letting me know. I know its trivial for a 1 - 2 HP gain, but stock vs snorkle removal, I too agree that its worth the time of taking it out and leaving it out.

Ive got another mod I'm working on that should be less then 15$, takes abit of time/circuit knowledge, but its damn worth it(Did it in my last Ford). I'll PM you when I'm done with the setup and figuring out what wires to tap.
