Is a water temp guage that reads up to 240 degrees enough??

a friend of mine is selling me his autometer cobalt brand new mechanical water temp guage that reads from 120-240 is that enough temp for our cars? he only wants $40.00 for it, do i NEED a 260 or 280 guage? at what temp do our cars start to overheat?

Dude, for only a little more $$, you can get a NEW one, ELECTRICAL, that reads whatever you choose it to read, AND you can pick the style you want.
Having said that....If you run over 240 you're in troube anyway, so YES, 240 is high enough.

Yeah I run an Autometer Phantom electric, but IIRC it's a 250..

Either way, anything over 220 is to darned hot so you'll be fine. Actually is nice to see the guage close to "pegged" at 225.

Mine runs 185-190 regardless of ambient. Sometimes sees 195 on a Nitrous pass..... guess i need to pull the Fluidyne and clean'er out! lol
