Is it my Tranny?

I own a 96 gt. I had a question to anyone that may know the answere. When I floor the gas pedal, my RPM's go up real quick but the car doesnt seen to go as fast as the RPM's go up, and then they come back down and gradually go up as I increase my speed. There is also a nocking noise coming from where the transmission meets the engine. Personally, i think its the transmission. Can anyone help me?

Auto or manual? Manual it is probably the clutch slipping. Auto, I would check the fluid level first on the manual too for that matter. Also if you have a five speed try adjusting the clutch by pushing in the pedal then letting off and then lifting the pedal with the top of your foot. This will adjust the clutch cable if it is hanging up and causing the clutch to drag.

What he said. If you have an auto and the fluid level is good, I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure you have issues.
