I have put lot's of money into my 98 GT. Still I wish I had gotten a 99-04 bodystyle instead. Well what I was wondering was couldn't I just take the body off a 99-04 mustang and put it right on my frame? Nothing really changed from the 98-99s did it? What all would I need? I figure I could find a cheap body shell somewhere and it would be cheaper than buying a whole new car. So can it be done with no issues?

No, cant be done. Its a unibody setup, there is no "frame" to speak of. Its all 1 peice.

yes, you can reskin a 94-98 to be a 99-04, i've seen it done before. dont do it though....too much $ to put into your car. Just buy a 99-04 GT. It will have less miles and wear and tear on the motor, tranny, suspension, body, interior etc...than your 98. it wont be cheaper than buying a new car.

What would cost so much? I mean I understand that it would be worth it to just buy a new car but the only part of my car that isn't "newer" is the body so why not just replace that? I'm still a little confused about it though. So the body doesn't just lift up as one piece and slide onto mine?

it can be done, but it would be much cheaper/easier if you bought a 99-04 v6 donor and swapped over all your engine/trans/suspension/electrical stuff

the SN95's dont have a frame on body.... its all one piece....

What's wrong with you? The 94-98 look bad ass when they have a nice set of rims and lowered. Is yours all 4x4 out?

it would not be a conversion for the faint hearted. its going to require ALOT of bodywork, as most of the skins will need to be welded on and adjusted. the front is relatively easy, you just need to get a 99-04 headlight header panel, front bumper, fenders and hood. you can find 99-04 doors so that is not a problem. the biggest headache will be the rear quarter panels.

it would prolly be easier and more cost-effective to buy a 99-04, transfer everything you have on the current GT over, and sell the old GT and put all that into the new GT.

You don't have a frame. The entire car is one peice.

No. Cars haven't done that since the 70's.

Cars are built as one peice these days.


Besides, there is alot more that is different than just the outside. The suspension is slightly different, the brakes, the rear end is wider, the interior is different, stereo is different, defrost, fogs and other accessories are wired differently, different trans etc.

What exactly to you like better about the 99+? You can always do a PI swap and have a 260HP 4.6L just like the 99+ Mustangs.

If you want just the sheet metal, it's cheaper to sell your car and buy one

No mustang has ever had a frame. They have been unibody since the first one rolled off the assembly line in 1964.
