Say after 2.1s (your old 60' time) your car generally hits about 45mph. Now you run the 60' in 1.9s. You are quicker, but you don't reach 45mph until about the 80' mark. You get to the 60' mark, and thus the end of the track, too soon for your car to get up to the speed it was reaching before.
