I was driving around last night and going up a pretty steep hill and i come up on a friend in a Grand Prix GTP. He punched it so i did the same and when he supercharger built up pressure i couldent catch him...... He dident pull away but it was pretty shocking to me. We were prolly going 40 when we started to race. But i dont think i would of caught him....... is my car slow or are these cars killer over 40mph.?

Well since I own a 98 Regal GS (basically the same as a GTP) I can vouch that i have beat many mustangs with it. The car really is not slow at all. The fact that it is a torque monster for a v6 and puts out 240hp stock is pretty impressive. They are a killer street car, but dont perform too well at the track stock form unless you can get a good launch. But they get up and move for sure.

Accually the car is not that horribly slow.... It has a hard launch and we dident drag race from a start. Ive beaten a 98 GT 5 sp. its just the fact that we were already rolling and they have MORE HP than me at 240.... Remind me to giver more hell the next time. Next step MORE POWER
and what difference does it make if the exhaust is 2 1/2 as compared to 3??? i know its a little overkill for a 302ci engine it isent going to bring me down that horribly.

No offence to any 98 GT owners out there, but the 96-98 GT's were the biggest performance dissapointment since the Mustang II's rolled off of the assembly line. I wouldn't feel all that proud to have beaten one of those if I were you. I saw a V-6 Camaro run neck and neck with a '97 GT once. Not a respectable couple of years for Mustang performance at all.

In a word...Yes. What your car needs is Torque. 3" is fine if you're moving a lot of air through that engine with either forced induction or displacement, but it's big time overkill for a stock 302. By going so huge, it's murdering your low end torque. Even with the 4.10's it's probably no where near as potent on the bottom end as it could be. Not only that, but I'd think you'd be a lot happier with a higher stall converter than you've chosen. A 2800-3000 stall may be more to your liking and will still be every bit as streetable as stock! I'd even go as far to say if you weren't going to build the engine much beyond that, then to go back to the stock 2 1/4 and run a set of high flow mufflers or an O/R H-pipe or something. Besides a cat back exhaust on a near stock engine isn't giving you a lot of extra power anyway.

My second point of advice, is that although it's not a bad idea by any means to reinforce your chassis and/or suspension, (more people should start their before adding power IMO) it's only going to add to the already portly weight of your Vert. The only think you're going to do to help your position right now is to ditch the exhaust and start buying components that are going to add "serious" power to the engine. Skip the roller rockers, T/B, MAF stuff for now and start saving up for a H/C/I swap, or better yet a stroker set up, forced induction, or as was stated earlier N2O.

Yes well thank your for this. I dident ask for power adding advice. I dont have the money for Anything right now accually. And im not going to add smaller exhaust. Its not a fast car in the first place. But it keeps me happy for now. Being im more worried about MX. Im sorry you wasted your breathe.

I dident say anything about chassis mods? so what are you saying here?

I know im just in a bad mood. *not any reason related to cars or racing*
2500 stahl was a freebe so i took it. its accually not even 2500 with the 4.10's oh well those dident affect me loosing its just the fact that THOSE CARS ARE FASTER.

Since you were in a bad mood that day, I'll keep it civil. As stated above, I wasn't ragging on your ride, but meerly telling you why you got beat and how to prevent it from happening again. Bottome line, you've got too much car and not enough power to be running a 3" exhaust. I'm sure it sounds great, but it's killing your power. Whether you choose to change it, it's up to you, but now you know.

Well, your signature states "Lakewood trac bars, Moroso 3 way adj. shocks, Taylor Batt Box"....which to me sounds like you've beefed things a little in the chassis and suspension end? Which again, like I said is good, but still heavy.
