is off-road x-pipe worth it?

yeah but the design of the x allows the gas to take the path of least resistence to the tips....allowing for it to flow faster and more smoothly from the exhaust system....better flow

When the gases meet in the middle it increases the velocity of the total amount of gases. It's all about SCAVENGING the exhaust as quick as possible and the x pipe does it quicker because of the merge. Its got nothing to do will a curve. The h-pipe just has a crossover to balance the flow...not increase the velocity of it. The x-pipe effectively increases the speed of the gases leaving the motor. Why do you think open headers make the most power...........the exhaust is exiting very quickly and the motor is free to make rpms harder and quicker becuase there is nothing holding it back.

These are facts gentlemen....why do you think that every x-pipe ever dynoed ALWAYS shows a gain over an h-pipe.

My crossover is only 7 inches from the end of my longtubes. The closer you make the merge, the quicker the exhaust has a chance to speed up and more power can be made.

My custom x-pipe dynoed 15 rwhp over my old h-pipe. And it dynoed 6-7rwhp over the Dr.gas.................sorry guys but the h-pipe is outdated as far as power is concerned...............its a fact.

Mike, so whats the design of your "custom X-pipe" that makes it so different than the others to gain that much power? Also please find those dyno charts and e-mail them to me, I'll believe it when I see it. Not trying to flame you, but I'm going to believe the other dyno results I've seen in person. I got ZERO gain switching to an X-pipe and I'm making more/same HP as you did.

Also, if X-pipes are so great, why isn't Ford using them on the new Mustang?

im gonna guess something to do with emmissions maybe???....and remember they did use a Bassani X on the Cobra R

Mike, open headers do not make the most power on most applications. Several magazine articles and books have shown that. Last year one of the Mustang mags showed a decrease in power when the mufflers where removed.

From what everyone is saying, an X-pipe should provide better emmissions.

True. I have a Dr. Gas x-pipe and love it, but before I had it put on I was running my BBK LTs open for about 2 days and man was it slow!! I lost all low end torque and the car felt like a snail.

Couldn't be happier with my Bassani O/R x-pipe !!!

I replaced my ss Bassani cat'd x-pipe with the Bassani BX version O/R, and it made a big difference on the power curve. It winds up easier, and from 3K upward it pulls like crazy. I'm getting it dyno'd next week, and I'll post the results. With the mods, see signature it made 251 rwhp on a Mustang dyno with 90 degree temp and humidity. That pull had a screwed up diablo sport chip with incorrect MAF settings. I've now got the right settings, and the O/R x- pipe. So it should make a difference.

It has great quality, no leaks etc. Sound is excellent. Very raspy, not tinny. Yes it's loud at WOT, but cruising it's not bad. Get one, you won't regret it.

I like my new H-pipe sound.... probably deeper than with an x-pipe, so I'm told. I was only concerned with a sound better than what I had, and not a few more horse, and the cost was less. A hundred clams for the H was well worth it.

david, did you get your H pipe off ebay? they have a bunch going to $100... but I'm not too sure of the quality... or warranty for that matter...

My crossover is only 7 inches from the opening of my headers. The closer the crossover the greater the velocity. This is not argument. i saw it with my own eyes and if you dont believe it its no skin off my back.

I picked it up from Jegs... It was the O/R h-pipe. Fit and quality was pretty good and I had the cross tubes welded after everything was lined up. Had to adjust it a couple times to get the tail pipes lined up good. They leaked until they were welded because just the clamp at the crossover tubes didn't seal right for me. A muffler shop charged me ten dollars to weld it... the guy there was pretty cool to help me out.

I will repeat what was said earlier. If you wan't the "classic sound", get an o/r h-pipe.

If you want more power and a "different" sound, get the x-pipe.

BUT IF YOU GET AN X-PIPE

Don't get the mac x-pipe style. Where the two pipes merge, the BARELY merge. See pic below.

Here is the magnaflow x-pipe. They merge completely. This is a real x-pipe.

Magnaflow/bassani/Dr. Gas are both excellent products. Dr. gas you have to weld. Magnaflow/bassani are complete systems. The usually go for around 270-330.

The MAC x-pipe is cheaper, but don't expect the power you get with a true x-pipe like magnaflow.

BTW, guys that did the o/r x or o/r h install, what do you guys do with the EGR tube? Do you plug it up, or what? My brother just ordered an x-pipe for his (2003 GT), and it doesn't look like it has a egr tube fitting!!! Thanks!
