Is Open Exhaust Bad For The Engine?

I have been running by car with no mufflers, just a Bassani O/R X Pipe, for the past few days, and it sounds wikkid, but very loud. Downside though, is that I lost a lot of low end torque (duh!) but I can rip the tires loose in 3rd gear at 65mph now! (mind you this is a stock NPI engine!!!)

Reason for the thread: Is it bad to get on it when the exhaust is open like this? I know that I have NO back pressure since it's just open pipes, but it's sooo much fun to gun it and listen to the scream in my ears!

Thanks.

Straight pipes have no real detrimental effects to the engine, except for the loss of torque of course.

When you run open headers however, you may end up with warped valves.
Ok, cool, I heard that from somewhere but I didn't know if it had the same effect on straight pipes. Thanks!

I know!.. :(

But the VT Stage 2's are going back in... getting it done by a reputable shop, the one that tuned the car. They're going to install and degree them and everything.. I hope to get 300rwhp :D

Going under the knife on December 18th.. so u guys can expect to see results by the 20th
