I have been running by car with no mufflers, just a Bassani O/R X Pipe, for the past few days, and it sounds wikkid, but very loud. Downside though, is that I lost a lot of low end torque (duh!) but I can rip the tires loose in 3rd gear at 65mph now! (mind you this is a stock NPI engine!!!)

Reason for the thread: Is it bad to get on it when the exhaust is open like this? I know that I have NO back pressure since it's just open pipes, but it's sooo much fun to gun it and listen to the scream in my ears!

Thanks.

Straight pipes have no real detrimental effects to the engine, except for the loss of torque of course.

When you run open headers however, you may end up with warped valves.

Ok, cool, I heard that from somewhere but I didn't know if it had the same effect on straight pipes. Thanks!

The crossover pipe pulls hot exhaust gasses away from the exhaust valves, and I believe you can overheat the valves if you run open headers or no manifolds at all (the latter being the worst)

Hear ye! Hear ye! I now present to you... Open SLP LT's and VT Stage 2's

http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a267/jasonh_86/2002 Mustang GT/?action=view&current=MOV00265.flv

It was idling at 1000rpm at the time of this video, but you can get an idea of how it sounded.. But the video doesn't capture it at all. I could feel the car inside my chest
