The pads were supposedly "new" when I got the car about 12k ago and the last few days I noticed a slight slight squeal when slowing down from like 30mph to 5mph. Not every time but about everyother. I cant tell which wheel its coming from and I dont have 30 mins to jack it up and check but I was thinking that just becuase it squeals a little doesnt mean they are necc bad right? Isnt that why they have that "stop squeal"...stuff in autozone....?

If they are supposed to be new i would actually guess that your rotor is slightly warped... Actually when you change pads you should probably change rotors too.
That squeal stop stuff is just like a putty/glue that makes your pad stick to the caliper...

sometimes they're just a little dirty, like a piece of somethin got stuck in there... try washin your car

get your rotors turned AND get new pads. at least youll know the two things that arent the problem when you are done

I think all the pads are pretty easy. When i worked at Toyota of Stafford, I was helping those mechanics work on a Stang that got traded in. The brakes arent that bad, especially when those dudes have Mac impact gun with 1000lbs of torque....bastards. Im still hooking long tubes to my rachetsCivicEater said:

What if you replace pads AND rotors and they still squeak? Not to hijack the thread, but I bought 45 dollar Raybestos front pads to go along with new rotors and they have squeaked since day 1.

seriously, if they're new its either dirt behind the pads or they're not tight enough. If that's the case clean the backs, spray blueine(sp?) brake pad glue or use a self adhesive shim

yeah, use some brake parts cleaner, spray that bitch down. then, use a good amount of anti sieze/squeal compound on the metal plates that go on the backs of your pads.

well I know that the last time I had pads changed for me the f-ing guy didn't apply anti squeal to the back of the pads...so I would even check that...so I just do pads myslef make sure it is done right...too many lazy people

If you have spoked wheels (see the pads w/o taking off the wheels), then take a look. If the squeeler is touching the rotor, then you need new pads. If it isn't, then run your fingers down the rotor, starting at the outside edge, and go straight down. It should be very smooth, with no bumps. If you feel bumps/imperfections, then you need to return the rotors and put new pads on.
Just remember to follow the correct procedure to "bed" the pads. If you don't go easy on them for the first 200 miles or so, you will have pads as smooth as glass & squeaking will return.
