Is there a clutch cable spring?

I have all my crap scattered out waiting to put the car back together, and dad said something about having a clutch cable spring that goes on the cable where it meets the arm for the throwout bearing. Is there a spring there? It's been so long I've forgotten exactly, but all I have in my baggy is the little retaining clip. If there is a spring, where can I get one? I can't find one on 50resto, and the pics doesn't show of any. I would assume it would have a new one to come with the cable if it did. Thanks.

Not that I've ever seen. There's a spring CLIP that goes on the end of the cable to hold it onto the ear of the tranny before the clutch fork, but not an actual spring, per se.

there is no spring there. if you have an adjustable cable set the cable to zero lash, where theres no slack and no pressure on the fork. if its the stock quadrant and cable setup it will self adjust. if not, just pull up on the pedal when its in the car and the plastic quadrant will ratchet back and take up slack and its good to go.

and the forks on the pressure plate will pull the cable back. there is no spring there.

The return springs were common on older cars (that might be where your Dad's thoughts are coming from) but the guys are right.

Kind of a dumb question but I figured I would ask. Dad wasn't sure since he didn't tear it apart but the cars been down so long and it's just now starting to come back together so I didn't want to prolong the wait any longer than I had to.

some guys I know have installed a return spring to help keep pressure off the throw-out bearing.

like this...you will need to sut a slit in the cover to go around the spring but it will help save your TOB
