is this a fair price, or is it a hard dry ride?

i bought a new fuel pump off ebay. brand new, dirt cheap and flows much more than my stock one. it'll be plenty enough for my setup since i never intend to go beyond the occassional shot of laughing gas. i heard a commercial for a new mustang shop in town, and i called them for an estimate to install the pump. they quoted me a price of $162.50 for the installation. is that a fair price? or are they overcharging? thanks.

That's def. fair. More then likely that's a two hour job at 70ish dollars an hour plus tax and shop fees. Sounds like a good deal to me.

uh dude? it takes 30 mins.. i've done it like a billion times.. remove the two straps and let the tank down.. unplug everything and then take a flat head and hammer and spin the ring off.. put it down in the tank.. put the ring on and put it back in.. easy as pie.. dont pay that kinda money for a job that equals the difficulty of a set of valve covers.. lol

i would have already done it myself, but i am already pushign ti by working on my car in the parking lot of our apartment complex. we're not "supposed" to work on our cars out there at all, but so long as we clean up afterwards and don't make a mess they don't mind. but... dropping the gas tank in the parking lot is another thing altogether. since i don't have a place to do it i'll have to find a mechanic unfortunatley.

are you nuts? metal against metal on a GAS tank? i'd feel much safer using a 2x4 and a rubber mallet. just my $0.02

Back when I upgraded my fuel pump I was debating on doing it myself and what not also.... I got a couple quotes from reputable shops and the lowest was $100. Yes IMO for a pump like ours that is relatively easy to replace, $160 is too high.

I decided to pay the money and have it done mainly because I wasn't feeling well at the time and I just wanted it done.

I second the rubber mallot though!
