Is this a good combo?

I am looking for just a fun street car that I can take to the strip 2-3 times a year. So having said that This is the combo I have been thinnking of. Tell me what yall think.

Trickflow TW, 1.6 rr, Trick Flow stage 1 cam or, Steeda 19 cam, Edelbrock Preformer intake, with the mods in my sig. Wha kind of times could i be looking at?

Any input would be great.

I really don't have a problem with mixing combo parts myself
as long as they compliment each other :)

I will say most NA combos I've seen with the 19 cam has had
a soft low end :shrug:

It probably won't idle with the Stage One cam so you'd need a chip or EEC tuner to raise the idle. If you're going with an off-the-shelf grind something like the Comp XE270HR should work okay.

The TFS cam will need a tune

Are you saying the Comp cam will not need a tune?

If that is what you are saying ... why won't it need a tune?

Also ... do you think the Comp cam with no tune will make
the same or more power than the TFS cam with a tune?

Check out the contents of the kit and see if it still saves you money compared to what you will pay by getting the gaskets/rockers/etc. yourself:nice:

Extra Notes:
The street heat intake has 15 inch runners and the track heat intake has 12 inch runners.

The street heat heads come with smog provisions and the track heat does not. The track heat heads can be ported a bit more because of this.

Both the street heat and track heat heads come with 3/8” rocker studs and the track heat heads can be upgraded to thicker 7/16” rocker studs. Just call your sales representative to get the upgrade.

Both street heat and track heat versions have the option to come with dual valve springs and 10* locks.

I'm with Grady, it looks like the Stage 1 cam's powerband starts a little bit earlier compared to the Steeda #19. The Steeda #19 could possibly idle a bit better, but nothing a tune can not take care of:nice:

I should have been a little more specific. Any combo will benefit from a good tune, I was just trying to state that the Stage One cam would probably not idle without a tune (or chip). Its entirely possible that it wouldn't idle with the Comp cam either, but I think the chances for a good idle and good vacuum are better with the Comp XE270HR-14. Looking at the seat timing it has very little overlap. This is not a guarantee that it will idle with the stock ECU, but I think the likelihood is that it would have better manifold vacuum. As far as making more power without a tune vs. the Stage One with a tune I really wouldn't have a clue. I think most h/c/i installs would benefit from some sort of custom tune. I hope I clarified my post a little bit at least.

Yes ... I understand :D

Another option is to pick a cam based upon its ability to work with the
other combo parts for maximum torque & power

as opposed to

Selection based upon fear of drivability issues

The pcm can be made to work with cams with low lsa with no prob :nice:

The down side to that kind of thinking is it will cost more cash :notnice:

But Hey ... it takes cash to go fast :rlaugh:

For your goals, the trick flow street heat package is going to be nearly impossible to beat. There is a ton more in that package then just heads. You can take that package way into the 12s with a proper tune. It's a good deal. Would an FTI cam be better? Hell yeah, but for under 2500 bones you won't top the TFS kit.

YOu will benefit more from the FTI cam than the TFS stage 1. Even though the stage 1 TFS cam is a good cam. Custom cams just seem to have a broader power band and make more HP and TQ.
 
I thought about giting a FTI cam instead of the stage one. Would the custom cam benifit me more? or should I just stick to the stage 1?
