They were $1400 USD brand new. You'll need more RAM than 256... I'd go at least 768... A gig is better You can buy that later though

Yeah it's ram...

Random Access Memory. It's what the computer uses to connect to the internet, run 3 open browsers at the same time, play windows media player, anything short term and dealing with the present.

What processor does it have? AMD? INTEL? I wouldnt spend $450 on that unless you need something NOW because if you shop around for a few extra bucks you can get something new thats alot better with a warrentee. Good luck.

That's a horrible deal just because of the hardware.

I don't know how Canadian translates into US Dollars, but even if that was cheap, that's a horrible computer.

256 Megs of RAM is just barely enough to run Windows XP, an OS that's been out for what, 5 years now?

What you're looking for in a computer/laptop:

Either AMD or Intel CPU (No Celerons)
Anywhere between 40 and 160 gigs of harddrive space
at least 512 Megs of RAM
Windows XP
If you want to play some of the lastest games out there, at least a Nvidia 6600GT

What's your price limit?

I think that you're thinking of the Mobile Centrino Processor.

There is a huge difference. The celeron is an utter piece of ****, while the centrino offers excellent battery life, great performance, and great bang-for-the-buck. The difference between the two is a 2.3l Fox Celeron and a 5.0l Fox Centrino. Ask any computer enthusiast to describe a celeron in two words, and I guarantee you almost all will have one word that won't pass the forum filter.

Most laptops a year ago used Centrinos. But now AMD has some pretty good portable processors, and Intel is working on the successor to the Centrino (I think, haven't kept up with tech stuff since I got into Mustangs last may )

I just want to have like 2 or 3 windows open and maby watch videos that people post here on SN without eating supper while it downloads half of it. I would rather find a new pc tower cause I already have a 17" screen and cordless kewboard and mouse. I would like to spend under 400 cdn. It just seems like I can find laptops cheaper. This is for home use I wont be using it in my car or anything.

as fast as technology changes you'd spend a fortune buying the new stuff all the time. pick something thats a year or two old technology wise most that stuff is fine, except for some of the popular laptop chips as mentioned earlier.

anything pentium I or pentium II is way to old to screw with if your buying something. pentium III stuff is outdated too but can work for basic stuff and run windows xp. i have an old dell pIII 550....it's not much, but still works and is my spare pc.

i'm more familiar with intel stuff than AMD, i can say that i have seen on e bay refurbed dell dimension computers with pentium 4 and 2 ghz processors for 4 or 500 depending on options. anything p-4 should work fine, and as long as it has a minimum 256 memmory, and a hard drive of 20 gb or more, that works for most basic stuff...

the secret to buying a pc or building one is building what you need. you don't need a 300 dollar video card if you don't game, etc.....

look at some places like www.newegg.com to even get an idea for building your own tower computer, it's not that hard and when your done with it you know how to replace and upgrade things. you'll never have to buy a computer again, just keep upgrading the parts into the case....if you can build a model or rip a car apart you can build a computer...minus the floor jacks and sledge hammers
