Hey I just got my spoiler I bought used Its pretty beat up but everything seems fixable except for maybe this. There is a bump in the top of it. The seller claims it wasnt there and UPS did it but I find that hard to belive. Heres some pics.

Is that a Saleen S351 spoiler? Anyways I imagine a good body shop could fill that in with fiberglass or bondo or something and then sand it down and repaint it.

Actually I would think you would have to sand down the hump and then bondo over it it smooth it.

If its a bump you are pretty much screwed. If its a dent filler will work. I would definitely give him bad feedback. Ups couldnt have cause that.

it only looks like a scratch from the pic. if so then just polish it out. if its a dent or crack then yes you should put some fiberglass on it.

You need to cut out the bad part, patch in a new piece of smooth fiberglass, and do some filler and paint work to get it to look right.

That sucks, either way.

Just depends on what happens with UPS and the guy that sent it to you. If you can't get a refund, then you are stuck with it

If you can get a piece of fiberglass cheap, and some cheap way to paint it, then it's worth it I guess.

But depends on how much work/money you want to put into the wing.

Depends on whether or not you want to try to fix it. It wouldn't be difficult, just time & money consuming. If you don't want to fix it yourself, forget about it. A shop will charge you an arm and a leg.

I assume you just want a stock wing. Have you looked around ebay/stangnet/corral classifieds for another? You might luck out with some patience. It isn't likely to find one that matches your color car, so you would have to get it repainted. So call around, and ask how much they would charge to repaint a spoiler, and compare it to the cost to repair the wing you have.

The paint on the wing matches your car, so you would only have to paint a very small portion of the wing. The cutting & fiberglass work is what will cost you.

Let me clarify a few things, the shops said it would cost more to fix then a new one. 2nd It does NOT match my car, my car is black. I already have a stock black wing and the one in the picture is a S351. I think this is made out of urethane, does fiberglass stick to that? Im not sure if i want to fix it, IF i do, how do you think i should go about doing this? Im thinking grind down the whole bump(there will be a hole in it) and the laying some fiberrglassbut make it dent inward. Then take bondo or something to fill that dent and then it will be smooth, where can i get bondo/some sort of filler?

There is no way you could "grind" all of that out. The wing is probably 1/32" thick, hollow inside.

How much does a new S351 wing go for unpainted?

Basically, if you can spend less then what a wing costs brand new, then you will be saving money. But it depends on how much time/effort you want to spend with this project. You could do all of this for pretty cheap. It's just going to take a lot of work (depends on how smoothly things go).

Here is the best way to fix the wing.

#1 - Sand down the entire wing to bare fiberglass/urethane/whatever. This will show you exactly what's wrong with the wing. There may be more damage, that is "hidden".

Lets assume, after you sand the entire wing down, that the only problem is that one section.

#2 - you will need to cut out the warped section completely. This will be similar to a body panel repair. You can't fill a hole that big with filler. It will crack/chip/etc. So, take a marker, and draw a simple shape that covers the entire damaged section plus about 1/2 inch of non-damaged section all of the way around. Simple shape means circle, square, etc. This will make fabbing the replacement piece much easier.

Take your time with this step. You want the piece to be as symetrical as possible. First, make simple dots in the shape you want. Then pencil the shape in. Then measure many times to ensure accuracy.

Once the shape is drawn, slowly, and carefully, cut out the bad piece, inside the lines your drew. Then sand the rest until the exact shape is made. If you chose a square, then make sure the corners are 90*, and all of the lines are straight. If it was a circle, make sure the distance from any two opposite points measure the same length.

Once you are done cutting/sanding, re-measure the shape you cut out. This will provide a template for the piece to be put in it's place.

Now it comes time to put in something to fill the hole. This depends on what the wing is made out of. When you figure it out, post back.

Also, you may want to try crusing around the hotrod forums. They do this kind of stuff all the time, and would know the best solution to this problem.

I bought mine for $100 off ebay. It was not an exact fit, one of the holes in the deck lid had to be reemed out so the bolt from the wing would sit down inside the deck lid. Other then that its fine, looks good and the quality was pretty sweet.
