Im looking for a supercharger, and cant seem to find much. I have a welder and skills, What do you think, could i make an EMMISSIONS LEGAL Single turbo kit myself for under 2k with all the parts? meaning, Single turbo(possibly masterpower), Intercooler, piping, 42lbs, MAF, Single 3" cat.? what do you think? is it possible? In MASS i was told that as long as it physically passes emmissions its fine....or i could buy a sticker for ~100 if i had to. What do you think? i KNOW i could make it myself, however can i do it in this price range do you think? otherwise ill just make it easier and bolt up a supercharger. what would you do?

I am doing it for about $1500, but I am having my hot side fabbed by someone else, no intercooler, and I already have a TwEECer and 42#ers. If you do it yourself, you should easily be able to make it for under $2000.

figure:

$400 for a used turbo
$150 for hot/cold pipes
$200 for a wastegate
$300 for 42#ers
$100 for a fuel pump
$150 for an intercooler
$100 for miscellaneous stuff (oil lines, bungs, clamps, ...)
$100 for a BOV (if you have a manual)

that's $1500, leaving $500 for a tune.

I'll tell ya.. it's the small things that add up, but none the less, you can do a single setup for under $2k for sure.. Actually a couple years back I sold my S trim for $1600, and managed to do a nice single setup for about $1200 intercooled.. (already had injectors, mass, fuel pump, tweecer)
I don;'t see why you can't weld on a cat or two, and pass emissions..

you should go to turbomustangs.com they have a lot of junkyard builds there maybe some one can help you out a little the only thing is do some research on the site first they dont really like it when you want them to do all the work for you:}

thanks guys. I allready have a chip so a re-tune should be cheap. I really think i am gonna do this. I was thinking of using a masterpower turbo, possibly a t-70. So that, Intercooler,Pipes, cat,Wastegate,Bov,Inj's and a maf cant be too much right? hmm....ill crunch some numbers i guess.

Im not sure how much a cat conv would cost, but your going to have to find deals to stay under $2k for everything.

figuring new parts, except BOV..

MP T70 w/ V band & clamp- $750 ish
hotside piping/headers/clamps- $250-300
cold side/conectors/silicone- $150ish
intercooler- $250-300 Ebay cooler
BOV- used 1st Gen DSM- $40-50
Wastegate- Tial 38mm- $210-$220
Injectors- 42's $ 300
fuel pump- Walbro GSS340- $110ish?
mass air- ProM Univer - $300 ish

Those are just some ballpark figures of parts I would recomend.. and the total would come close to $2400
I would recomend finding used parts, if you wana keep things under budget, such as an intercooler, turbo, wastegate, and bov.. You could buy injectors and mass air used also, and save big. This is figuring you have a welder, and know a thing or two about turbo systems and design.. It's not rocket science, but believe me when I say, I've seen plenty of cobbled up mess called turbo kits. Take your time and do it right, and you will reap the rewards of boost!! :D

Dang Green your all over the place :D . You CAN keep your AC but your going to have to make your own drivers side header or run it the right way, and go between the flywheel back up to the passenger side. Your ****ed on the smog pump=custom header.

Green don't punk out dude. Just pull your smog and your AC, then run shorties. Don't worry about the smog testing. Hell I might sell you my custom drivers side header...cause I took off my AC and I don't need the header anymore.

I knwo for a fact you can keep a/c.. You could keep smog, if you made a custom pass side header.

Actually when I finish BlackVerts setup I will post some pictures.. His setup will retain all accesories except smog. I have found a way to use any shorty header as a drivers header with little customization.
