ive decided to just keep my edelbrock heads i have now which are ported, instead of spending 1300 on afr's. that allows me quite abit more money.

ive decided to get my 331 shortblock, 274hr cam, and in place of the afr's a novi 1000 supercharger. i will only be running 5-6 psi with it, but im wondering if that will be pushing the block? it is a stock block, all forged internals, h-beam rods, 9:1 compression/w 60cc heads.

it will rarely be boosted, i hardly ever get on it, then being a street car also. just dont want issues with another block. my other question is will this fuel setup be sufficient.

42's with an fmu and a 190 intank pump? or should i go up to a 255 pump?

255lph hi-pressure intank, inline pump ( I prefer the ATI)

The car should make 420rwhp+, just not really sure about that cam. You'll make enough power to split the block, keep the tune in check and you'll be in better shape. Will you run some type of tuner, PMS, etc?
 
i have no tuner currently, i didnt really plan on needing it running 5 psi right away.

i dont necessarly "want" to make that kind of power just for making too big of a jump at once, beside the cracked block. i may end up going with a 306 instead to mellow it out a little bit.

the cam is undecided also, just what i was planning with the 331 n/a so i added it. ill probably get a nice blower grind instead.

so a 255 in-tank, and 42's with no fmu should work fine? i can either get a free fmu or 255 walbro pump with the blower, so that works out easy enough.

later on i will probably invest in some type of tuner, i have always babied the hell out of the car and will rarely see boost. it shouldnt be too big of a deal if im rarely/not boosting should it?
 
I would stay 331 with the better internals it will actually help you a lot!

Good deal on the fuel stuff :nice: I like tuners for any combo, you would be surprised at all the things you can tune out or in a combo, worth every penny :)
 
Ive got a friend that has a forged 331 w trick flow T/W heads, Street heat intake (ported lower), E-303 cam, and A powerdyne w/ a 13 psi pulley.. He has all that in a stock 95 Gt block. And he beats on it pretty well.

Then why bother getting a blower? Your not the only guy running a blower or turbo on a stock block, the chances of it actrully splitting with less then 500 hp are slim to none. Dont be so worried about boost#s. Get the hp you want and dont worry about what your boost guage is reading. Ricks right, get the 331, it wont be working as hard to make the #'s u want, and plus, they are great internals to have for the next project. Goodluck.
 
i will eventually buy a tuner also, just at first i wont have the money to and with it being rarely boosted i figure ill be ok is what i meant. once it comes summer time and i have a good feel for the car, damn right i will be boosting. :nice:
 
have a few other things im wondering so i figured i would bring this back up.

i completely overlooked something, i still have my stock block which is in good shape i can transfer my 306 internals to. so im going to have it bored 30 over, cleaned then use it and keep my internals to save alot of money for now.

im still sticking with the blower i think since i want more then just a na 306. heres the questions.

with a 306, edelbrock heads, intake, street cam (undecided which, something more mild), 80mm maf, 70mm tb, exhaust ect, blower seeing 5-6 psi, will i still need 42's? or should i drop down to a 36?

this is what i have written down to purchase first off; 255 in-tank pump, xx injectors, xx mass air meter calibrated for them, blower, graphite head gaskets (should i get different ones or just stock?), canton oil pan, boost gauge, new longer belt, ect.

am i skipping over anything important? eventually i will be getting some sort of tuning device, but for now ill be taking it easy and getting things rolling again.
 
I'd still budget for the tuning. It's not just an issue with regard to keeping mixture correct and avoiding detonation, etc. It can significantly improve drivability and efficiency. You say it's a street car - you're gonna want great drivability. The further away you get from the HP/flows of the stock engine/ecu, the more you'll benefit from the ability to do a fine tune with the boosted set up. One issue right off is start up. Most folks find that when running the big injectors (e.g. - 42's) that too much fuel is dumped in during the start up cycle causing flooding/difficult starting. One of the tune features on big injectors is to 'turn down' that start up fuel. Not much fun having one that's hard to start.
 
tuning device in the beginning isint an option really. if its not running 100% efficient that is ok. all i want to see is the car running and ill be back to my 2k rpm granny shifts everyday. more then likely i wont even boost it until ive bought a tuner (after christmas).

my cousin went with 36# injectors on his car. 306 also, had a novi 1k, e-cam, ported cobra intake, ported stock heads, ect. he had the stock fuel pump and whatever inline pump came with it at the time. his car ran so rich it would barely even move. he went down to 19# injectors again before it ran right. i dont want to fight injector sizes and need a new mass air meter everytime. that will get costly and time consuming.

what injectors should i be looking at now? i see people running fmu's and stock injectors which i understand isint the best route. would i be ok with 30/36#'s and an fmu in my case? in-tank 255 pump will be added also.
 
With our blower combo when we made 425/465 at the wheels and a 36# pound injector was almost out of juice, around 85% duty cycle, a swap to 42# was needed if we planned for more power. Tuned with a PMS..

Yes we did pull fuel out at start-up and add it back in later, a tuner is a awesome piece that really should be considered. You would be surprised at how much power you are leaving on the table with-out one if you have a compitent tuner!
