Is this the correct part number for an Optima battery?

Hey guys, mine crapped out this week and I'm in need of a new one. Since the old one is toast, better upgrade to something nice, right?

Now is the correct part number for our cars 34/78? And is that the same part number for both the red top AND the yellow top? Lastly, this will slide into the stock location under the hood with any clearance issues correct? Maybe trim the tray a little bit but I will be able to shut my hood with no height issues from the battey?

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

yes i believe that one will fit click on link below for info.... the site gives the measurements and they can answer all your questions if you contact them....and the yellow top is a deep cycle and has the same part number but the part number has a d in it as follows D 34/78 but i believe the 34 is better for your application and you can save a few bucks unless you want the 34/78 which has the gm side posts....

I run the Optima Red Top 34/78. You MAY have to notch your battery tray, though. You can also run the 75/35.

Now do you guys know what the differnece is between a 34/78 from a 73/35? Except of course, the measurement differences.

And by notch, what exactly should I do? I think I know what to do but then again, better safe then sorry.

Anybody? I'm about to leave in half an hour and now that there are two possible choices, I don't know which one I should get. And some notching pointers would be benefical as well.

It's been a little while. I believe I had to trim one side of the box away for it. You'll see once you get in there. I used a handsaw with a hack if I remember correctly.

On the battery .... I don't know what to tell you. Ask around at the parts stores (or wherever you're getting it) and see what their recommendation is. People on here run both of them, though.

Did you trim just trim the one sides corner so it could somewhat bend in there or did you remove the back side completely?

Do you think something to cut it like shears or something like that could work on it? I mean the tray isn't really difficult to cut is it?

I run the red top and didn't have to cut anything I'm pretty sure it the 75/35....

What a piece of cake that was.

I saw what you guys were saying about notching it. The side near the positive terminal was a wee bit small so I just snipped the corners so it could fold out and it plopped right in.

Although I almost had a problem with the positive terminal because at first, it did not reach. So I situated it somewhat sidways, attached the terminal, and set it back down. Just enough room.

And FWIW, I got myself a yellow top, 34/78.

Whoops, forgot to ask one more question.

Do the Optima batterys come fully charged from the factory? Reason I ask is because when I swapped out batteries, and after I started up the car, the needle on the battery gauge was inbetween the "N" and the "O" on the NORMAL lettering on the gauge. Is that normal?

Granted, my old battery basically stopped working and it was on that level before I swapped it out but I figured since I had a new one put in, the needle would jump right in the middle portion of the gauge?

Any ideas guys? Thanks.
