Issue with Explorer Intake Install

I drive an 88 GT. I am all but there! However I am forced to utilize the explorer TB and have it basically all set to go, but without the standard EGR spacer from my old Intake I am unable to fit the TB due to a clearance issue underneath where the throttle linkage goes. Wondering if there is something I can do to work around this. Or what the general gameplan is with this setup. Is a spacer generally used, because I assumed not due to it being 60mm and the TB being 65mm. Any help in any way would be appreciated.
 
Ok then, since I have the Explorer IM as well it seems easier to eliminate EGR so just the plate without the EGR on it would be satisfactory correct? I currently have all my vac lines set good to go without dealing with any on the TB or spacer.
 
Eliminating the EGR won't gain you any HP. The EGR shuts off at Wide Open Throttle (WOT), so it has minimal effect on performance. The addition of exhaust gas drops combustion temperature, increases gas mileage and reduces the tendency of the engine to ping. It can also reduce HC emissions by reducing fuel consumption.
 
It isn't about trying to gain performance from eliminating it, it was just for the ease of the modification to the Explorer intake with the adjustments in vac outlets/lines. And also due to the fact of cost for an egr spacer vs. an egr spacer with an actual egr attached. I do regret the situation as in reality it will only cause more issues than anything, however my budget is beyond tight right now and due to my lack of knowledge this mod became more expensive than expected. So it will be 1 step at a time from here on out, and a little more thorough on the research side of things.
 
Just use your EGR off your old setup, the spacer is pretty much the exact same as the stock one, except the inner bore is bigger to match the size of the bigger throttle body.

Bad idea - the 5MM difference in size will take away from much of the performance boost that would be gained by using a 65mm throttle body.
 
I am using my stock one when I do my swap but I have mine bored to the correct size.. If you know anyone that works in a machine shop they could possibly help you out..
 
Yeah well I woulda stuck with my stock throttle body even for the time being, but I was unable to remove it from my mustang intake, when it did finally break free it cracked in half. The EGR spacer seems as stuck on if not more, so I am uncertain how to remove it without damaging it, if you have any thoughts let me know. Otherwise I will be ordering a new one today.
 
PB Blaster soaking the studs overnight can be a wonderful thing. I pooh-poohed PB Blaster for a long while, assuming it was just another like many others.....until I actually tried it. I was absolutely amazed!:jaw:

When you re-assemble the TB and spacer, coat the bolts all over with lots of Never-Seeze antiseize compound. It will protect the bolts from corroding and seizing up. You can get Never-Seeze from any NAPA auto parts store. The stuff is somewhat expensive, but it works great. It is the best thing to use on water pump bolts, exhaust pipe and header bolts. Goop them up good with it and next time the fasteners loosen without breaking or rounding off the nuts or bolt heads.

I got the big 16 oz can ($23) because I use a lot of it every time I put something back together. If if drys up in the can, a little WD40 or light motor oil fixes it right up again. I can't recommend it too much, it has saved me hours of time and trouble when i need to take off things like the exhaust system or water pump.
 
Well I got my new spacer, installed and started the car up and everything was good until a little gas was given and a loose injector popped loose. I removed the upper to reassemble the fuel rail on the one side, and checked it by turning the key to the on position and all good, no leaks. However I got it all back together and wacko blamo, take it for a short turn around to see how it goes, and same story, fuel rail seperates from injectors, I am sure I fail at installing injectors now or something but however, I feel like this is kind of odd. any thoughts?
